Great TV and a reasonable price for 3D Entry

Review Date: April 28, 2010
Reviewer: Jonathan K. Vargason, Waverly, NY
The Samsung C750 is the most reasonable 3DTV on the market in terms of price. Not only is the television fully 3D compliant with the new standards, it also is an excellent 2D LCD television as well.

The 3D aspects of the television are the most interesting and what separates it from most other LCD's (including Samsung's 650 model). Although there is not much in terms of content to try out, I have watched Monsters Vs. Aliens 3D, Played Avatar the videogame on the PS3, watched the Masters in 3D, and tried out the 2D to 3D Conversion on live TV, movies, and games.

Unfortunately with all 3D sources, I have experienced some "ghosting" which is a problem where you see a double image. That said, I did manage to configure my Samsung 3D Bluray Player to the correct TV size (by default it's 55 inches) plus I upgraded the firmware and that seems to have made a large improvement. I suspect the picture size spreads out the effect and will cause even more ghosting than normal. With Avatar the game, I left the 3D effect at 1, set the correct TV size and viewing distance, and chose side by side 3D (you have to set the TV to match this) and the effect was brilliant! I do still see ghosting during cut scenes, but during gameplay it looks fantastic. The Masters, was a bit of a mixed bag. It is also side by side 3D and at times it is brilliant (when the camera pans around the environment your jaw will drop) but the first time you see severe ghosting you are taken out of the moment. However, I think once Cable and Satellite receivers are more 3D ready, you should be able to configure for the screen size, depth, and viewing distance.

2D to 3D is unique and has its moments of brilliance but also has severe drawbacks. Let's put it this way, you won't confuse Monsters Vs. Aliens 3D in it's native 3D format for watching Monsters Vs. Aliens in 2D to 3D conversion. The conversion (you can change the depth) actually can be quite blurry with some material and most material isn't worth watching converted. Some movies like Star Trek are kind of fun but I wouldn't buy the television strictly for this feature.

2D content is fantastic. The color (even the black level since you can configure the backlight without having to hack the firmware), sharpness, and overall features (such as MotionPlus) are astounding for the price range. I actually have turned off MotionPlus simply because it gives non sports programming a "Spanish Soap Opera" effect. I did run into a bit of a strange issue that seems to have gone away by resetting the cable box where the picture bounced up and down using a Time Warner HD Cable box hooked via HDMI (you need HDMI to view the Masters in 3D). I really can't hold that against the TV, it was more the cable box but I've read of similar problems with some Samsung models so there does seem to be some buggy firmware with the box.

Overall if it wasn't for the ghosting issues still being present (it could be the content, but I cannot be sure, I'd like to test more 3D Televisions) and the 2D to 3D conversion being slightly underwhelming I'd give this TV a perfect score. As it is, if you are in the market for an affordable HDTV and want the 3D option, you can't go wrong. You have plenty of inputs (plus two usb slots) and the TV is a beautiful compliment to your entertainment room so I highly recommend this television (it's nearly $1,000 cheaper than the LED model of the same size).

Edit as of 5/12/2010:
I've had this TV now for a few weeks and gone through a firmware update, tested some more functions, calibrated it more, and updated the firmware on the Samsung 6900 3D Bluray Player twice.

I want to change my comments on 2D -> 3D conversion. I don't know if it's the firmware upgrade or what, but now I definitely see a difference in most scenes (I have the depth up to 10). Games like Uncharted 2 with a map like "The Village" look fantastic converted. I've also managed to get Avatar (The Game) on the PS3 to look great with side by side 3D with minimal ghosting. Since the firmware update and the 3D Optimize option for the TV, Monsters Vs. Aliens 3D also looks very good.

I did have a stupid moment where I noticed a huge lag playing something like Rock Band and finally realized there is a game mode. Since going to game mode, I have no issues playing videogames and the response time is virtually nothing now.

I absolutely love the TV, it does have some flashlighting (You don't see this unless the screen is ENTIRELY black) but 2D content looks fantastic and 3D is impressing me more and more. For a while it was even cheaper than it is now on Amazon but the price went back up. It's still worth it. I see some people bashing the TV simply because the glasses aren't included or it's not competing with the Panasonic 3D Plasma models but they obviously haven't seen it. Everybody that has reviewed this TV on Amazon owns the TV, some sites people are reviewing 3D Ready TV's without actually owning it. I've seen reviews based on a 5 minute demo and they couldn't even tell you the firmware level. Believe me this TV is awesome and once you experience a true 3D source, you will have little doubt 3D is the next wave in TV (it may be a few years until it reaches mainstream).

I'm also giving it 5 stars since the firmware update since ghosting/crosstalk has gotten a lot better (it's still not quite perfect but very impressive).
First HDTV, Great Choice!

Reviewer: A. Brandt,
SHORT AND SWEET:
If you aren't already sitting on a 1080p HDTV or are looking for the affordable angle into the upcoming 3D ready technology GO FOR IT!
EDIT:I can't say enough good things about this television. It has been well worth the investment even without using its 3D capabilities yet.

Into:
I hadn't taken the plunge into HDTV's yet and was still watching on a 32" JVC tube television. I'll be a dork and admit that after seeing Avatar in 3D and with an upcoming birthday, I started researching the 3D ready televisions. Early reviews of the Samsung line were positive and only critical on the high end screens at an A/V level I won't be concerned with as an HDTV neophyte. Upon seeing Samsung's line up I had noticed the LN46C750 was the only non LED or Plasma offering, making it pretty much the most affordable 3D ready television out there. The info I found said the C750 should be like the B750 that CNET thought was quite good. Once the product showed up at Amazon, I went to big box store to check similar LCD's as well as try the 3D display they had setup. Being impressed by both I bought the LN46C750 the next day. I got the tv for less (killer deal) than it's going for now, but this price is still only about $3-400 more than a straight LCD of equivalent statistics.

Delivery & Setup:
The television came a few days earlier than expected! Box was undamaged and everything was in order when I pulled the set out. Having looked at LED LCD televisions in person that are sub 1" deep, I still find this television looks beautiful even with its portly (kidding) 3.2" depth. I have it set up on it's cool looking "X" stand on the old televisions garbage entertainment center (to be remedied in the future.) Directions are straight forward, I plugged in my cable, power source, and a ethernet cord--the WIS09ABGN wireless LAN adapter came later. Auto setup found all of my channels, set the time on the TV and updated the pre-installed apps.

Picture:
I mostly have left the picture settings alone, other than obviously picking home use over store display. Standard def. Cable doesn't look great, but I was expecting that as I've upped my PC monitor before and gone through the same issues. The free over air/cable HD channels are looking NICE! Unfortunately I do not have a Blu-ray player yet, and so I can't test really high end content. What I can say is I have one of the cheapest Target-special DVD players out there and STILL standard DVD's are looking great. SO good in fact that on some I have to turn down/off the Auto Motion Plus settings to avoid that re-shot-old-movie-with-high-end-home-video-camera look. The "mexican soap opera" look if you will. The exception is my animated selections. I tossed in Finding Nemo and it looks flat out amazing! Black levels (people seem to crow about this a lot on reviews) look good to me. With no signal in the lower 2 corners there is a bit of what I guess is "flashlighting" but nothing I find significant at all and when those parts of the screen are actually receiving signal I don't see it at all.

EDIT: I now have a PS3 functioning as my Blu-ray player and movies have looked amazing! Black levels look great to me, movies are chrystal clear and even a game like Uncharted from 2007 looks beautiful. I have now found that going with basic/manual image settings almost always displays a better outcome than letting the Auto-Motion and Anti-this-and-that take their shot at the images.

WIS09ABGN Wireless LAN Adapter:
Setup is no harder than getting a laptop to find your wireless router. Just plug it in after the television is on, and it will bring you through entering the password. Works excellent and given the shape of the back of this screen it fits in and won't be a problem even if you were to hang the set flush to a wall.

Apps (Incomplete): I have only really used the Netflix app as of yet. I have found that the HD streaming content looks great, and the SD streaming content goes from very good down to "meh" or even a bit jerky on screen. Given the HD content looks so good, I feel I can eliminate wireless bandwith issues. I think it is just a varying quality in the SD content they offer.
EDIT: Either the television is hitting its stride, or turning off all of the image enhancers has greatly aided the jerky movement I thought I was getting from the Netflix streams. Everything looks excellent now.

Sound:
I didn't anticipate running that much sound from the set, but since I'm streaming Netflix I find myself using the TV speakers more often than expected. I could use an Audio Out to my receiver, but I've found the sound to be surprisingly good (maybe it's that chubby 3.2" dept giving more room for the speakers).
EDIT: I still use the televisions speakers for most cable tv watching and even some streaming movies as they are working out well enough too not always bother with firing up the reciever for 5.1/7.1

3D Effects (Incomplete):
Sorry no review content here yet. I can't afford the 3D glasses right now--I didn't get the package deal as I'm getting a PS3 as my Blu-Ray player/game station. I will say I tried the rechargeable Samsung glasses at the big box store with Monsters V Aliens and while not a theater experience, the effect was still very cool even with all of the glare of the ceiling gym lights they had on.

I will update my review as I try/figure out new things. Let me know if there's something specific you want to know from my not-expert-but-very-attentive viewpoint.

EDIT: changed the final "term" of my viewpoint.
Impressions after 1 week

Posted this on AVS forums and decided to post it here too since I bought the TV here on Amazon.

Finally got the Samsung from Amazon after almost 2 weeks. Slowest shipping I've seen in a long time. I'd rather pay a few bucks than wait weeks for free.

Initial impressions:
Picture Quality: Out of the box the picture/brightness/backlight is very "bright" but varies greatly depending picture mode. Movie mode adjusts the picture settings to very close to the calibration settings for the C650 for movie watching (lcdbuyingguide calibration). I only took 3-5 mins calibrating each input for the devices I use and it took me a few mins to find game mode as it's not in there with the picture modes. Very extensive picture settings and 5 Auto Motion Plus modes with a Demo mode if you're not sure. Overall the picture is pretty jaw dropping with my HD Cable not to mention Blu-ray.

Head to Head with Bravia EX700:
Don't have a preference in TV brands and wanted to try a Sony this time around. I still have the Bravia but it's going back to Best Buy this weekend. To our eyes, textures and colors on the Sony appear more realistic and probably more accurate but it's pretty dull looking. The Samsung is more alive and side by side with the same movies playing from the same source everyone here picked the Samsung no matter how much I brightened the Sony. The dark scenes on the Bravia don't compare. Even with the backlight all the way up, it starts to wash out and just doesn't have the same WOW. That's the only way I can describe it. I also get bad contrast loss on the Sony if you move just 2 feet away from the center in any direction but I thought that was normal. I can't detect it on the Samsung until you view from almost the side of the TV. Huge viewing angle. I only watch from the middle anyway.

I could go on listing the features I like and dislike but this is getting long so I'll just tell you my favorite one so far. I play tons of HD movies from my PC across the room. The streaming from my wired network to this tv works better than my 360 and PS3 hands down. There is absolutely no loading time. I have about 80 MKV's (close to 1TB) in one folder and it loads instantly and streams them perfectly. This has to be seen to be believed. The streaming options are like that of a DVD/Blu-ray player with many nice functions. The Sony does not compare in this category at all. It wouldn't stream mkv's and it degrades the quality of anything it CAN stream. I just thought maybe these tv's added DNLA for kicks but no REAL functionality. Not the case on the C750. The internet options and the AP news ticker are sweet too. I"ll leave it at that for now and maybe review the 3D if anyone is interested. So far I'm very happy with this tv and still looking for flaws. If you have any questions feel free.

UPDATE on picture quality 6/29/2010
Quick tip I've found that most people don't do: For HD content, especially HDMI, turn your Sharpness down to 10 or less to get rid of jaggies. You will see a tremendous amount of jaggies out of the box on new tv's as they set the Sharpness way too high. You only need to turn it up for SD content.

I've had enough time with the tv to properly test things out and I'm still very impressed. There is definitely a little contrast degradation at wide viewing angles. It's not detectable unless you watch tv from the side of the room or you're looking for it. One thing I didn't like was how they named the Auto Motion Plus. Instead of Custom, Low, Medium and High, they call it Custom, Clear, Standard and Smooth without telling you what's high and low. You have to figure it out through testing it and that just added to the learning curve when testing the tv's functions on different stuff. I also noticed that if you set the Auto Motion Plus to high on some cable content you get some kind of judder/smoothing effect you don't get on low or medium. I personally love the Auto Motion effect on most content though. At minimum, I use the low setting on everything except videogames and it brings the picture to life.

If you play games online you MUST use game mode and there's virtually no detectable lag. All the picture settings are adjustable in game mode except Auto Motion. When you first turn on Game mode the picture will look horrible as the default Sharpness is set to 50. Turn it down to 10 or less to get rid of the jaggies and the picture is pretty perfect. The TV can pull off some good visual tricks but the processing adds lots of lag so don't turn any of that eye candy stuff on like Auto Motion Plus unless you're playing offline.

I can only imagine the horrible laggy, jaggy experience people are having if they don't do minor calibrations. Sharpness alone can kill your HD picture but with game mode turned off, Auto Motion on and other smoothing techniques on, the lag is almost unbearable. Game mode fixes all that. Fine tune it if you can or get help.

UPDATE on 3D 6/29/2010
5 Day update: 3D impressions: I intentionally waited a few days get some experience with it. Where do I start? First I will discuss the effect 3D has on my eyes, then how it looks. I've been playing with the 3D a lot for the past few days and the results were very mixed. If you've seen the Monsters vs Aliens in 3D in the Best Buy setup then you know what to expect from animated 3D Blu-rays for the most part.

I was surprised to see such extensive settings while in 3D mode. The 3D itself has depth and optimization options along with another set of picture settings just for 3D and the ability to use Auto Motion in 3D to fine tune your experience. Again, turning down the Sharpness, especially while playing 3D games has improved the picture quality greatly. Overall I guess it shouldn't have been a surprise to see so many adjustable settings because this is the most customizable TV I've ever seen.

I don't wear glasses normally but my girlfriend does so getting used to that is taking some time for me. The glasses bothered me a lot the first day watching cable TV while not bothering her at all. It was similar to the feeling I got watching Avatar 3D in imax. I feel the eye strain after 10 mins or so of sustained viewing causing me to remove the glasses every few minutes to rest my eyes. After 5 days though, I must note that I'm starting to get used to it and it bothers me less and less. However, while playing 3D games this is not the case. I've played for 30-60 mins straight multiple times. It does not bother my eyes at all (very happy about that). More on the games in a min. Monsters vs Aliens 3D and 1080p videos didn't bother my eyes either, essentially proving the theory that the majority of eye strain from 3D comes from the source of the video you're watching. In my case this was very true. Low reolution sources like 2D to 3D cable is a problem for me while 3D Blu-rays and 3D games and 1080p vids DO NOT have the same effect on my eyes even after 30 or 60 minutes. I haven't watched a whole movie yet but will soon.

First thing I tried was the 2D to 3D conversion for SD and HD cable. Not as good as real 3D content on Blu-ray by far but not bad at all. At far camera distances, the effect is not as high as when close up. Close up it looks pretty good. Looks like a "light" version of what Avatar 3D looked like to me in imax. The SD stuff seems to be such a low resolution that it's probably only worth attempting to convert 2D-3D for HD stuff. I didn't notice any artifacts, ghosting, crosstalk or whatever but I must note that we have the rechargeable glasses and not the battery ones and I've read that the glasses alone can change your whole viewing experience. In my opinion it's not worth skimping out on the glasses after you've gone this far and bought the tv. Get the good glasses and avoid any silly issues others are having.

Next I tried a few of my 1080p mkv and m2ts files. We can't detect any resolution loss here. Very impressive compared to cable in 3D. Still looks full HD and the 3D effect is much more evident. Tried Alice in Wonderland, LOTR, Matrix and a few others. Turn on Auto Motion Plus with it and it's even more amazing looking to me. Not as "3D" as Monsters vs Aliens and there's no off screen effects on anything I'm converting but this is far beyond what I imagined when I heard "2D-3D conversion". We will definitely watch these 1080p movies like this on a regular basis now. It's very refreshing to look at my large movie library with renewed excitement after seeing this in action on my favorite movies like Lord of the Rings and The Usual Suspects which I've seen at least 5 or 6 times.

Lastly, I played some games on PS3 and 360 in 3D. Sony has put a couple 3D demos out so I tried MLB The Show 3D and Motorstorm Pacific Rift 3D demo. Both looked great but Motorstorm was exceptional. I liked it so much I went out and bought a used copy of this 2yr old game assuming there'd be an update to play the full game in 3D. Not the case. There's no 3D mode on the update I was prompted to install. I was baffled that they would put out a demo of something you couldn't buy and I'm still upset about their trickery but this gave me the opportunity to test the 2D-3D vs the 3D optimized demo. I'm almost certain that all the demo does is essentially put your tv in the proper optimized 3D mode and makes some camera adjustments because side by side, the 3D demo was almost the same as the full game running in 2D-3D. The demo however was optimized to extend the bottom of the screen out into your living room a few feet so at times, dirt and passing cars pop off the screen and fly towards you in a cool way. Very nice. I then tried a few 360 games this way. I tried Battlefield Bad Company 2, Blur, Red Dead Redemption and Modern Warfare 2. Blur didn't have as pronounced an effect as the others. BF2 and MW2 were insanely better than I could have imagined going in to this. I'm playing the BF2 campaign over again and it's really like a new experience. For lack of a better description, it feels much more like you are there moving with your characters in the dense jungle. There's nothing popping off screen or any of that but the depth of the environments and characters make it hard for anyone to argue if this is the future for gaming or not.

Reserve your judgement of 3D until you really see it because if there wasn't the barrier of buying ridiculously high priced glasses, this is all most people would need to see to be sold on this technology. To have a TV that can do this stuff to 2D content at this price is just plain sweet as hell. Maybe my expectations were low but bottom line is if I knew the conversion was this good on 1080p film and games, I would not have been so worried about it. I guess seeing IS believing.
Beautiful Picture and a Great Value

Reviewer: Brian K,
This is my first purchase of a flat panel television, I spent a long time deciding on what to spend my money on. I can say that I am very happy with my decision to buy this television.
Although I have only seen the 3-d effect on the Monsters vs Aliens blu-ray, it is really incredible, very entertaining and mesmerizing.
I am looking forward to additional availability of 3-d televised sporting events like World Cup soccer this summer.
The one "negative" I would say is the auto-motion option, the "Spanish Soap Opera" effect is kind of off-putting when watching a movie. I have yet to watch a sporting event with auto-motion engaged so I am reserving judgment on that option until I do. Like the first reviewer, I turned auto-motion off, and think the picture quality of movies without that option is terrific.
I am updating this review now that I have watched the NBA playoffs with auto-motion engaged, and I can say that it definitely makes a positive difference in the picture.
Another nice thing about auto-motion, it has this great feature that allows the viewer to view half the screen in auto-motion and half without, thus making it much easier to compare which view is preferable. I see this as adding to the plus column when making a decision on whether to purchase.
Additionally, the shipping and delivery were flawless, the items were delivered in the timeframes that they were promised, and the person who delivered the tv was polite and courteous.
For the price, I think this television is definitely worth it, I am happy I waited to pull the trigger on a flat panel purchase until now.
Pleasantly Surprised

After receiving the television, the 3D Blu Ray Player, and the Starter Kit I was eager to test out the product to see how the 3D looked. I didn't go to the store to see how it would be, but just bought it without knowing because I always love Samsung TV's and was planning on getting a new one for my living room anyway.

I set everything up and went to turn on the 3D Monsters vs. Alien Blu Ray and there was no picture. I then tried the 2D to 3D conversion and there was no picture there either. I knew all about the TV and the settings beforehand so I looked through everything and for some reason there was no Auto Motion Plus setting under Picture Mode->Picture Settings. I thought this was odd and called Samsung. Usually Samsung customer service was good to deal with, but nobody there really could understand the issue and kept telling me to do the same stuff over and over. I even had a person tell me she talked to her supervisor and then five minutes lately I asked to speak to their supervisor and she told me there was no supervisor there.

I'm guessing my issue was extremely unique and with my knowledge I assumed that for some reason the without the Auto Motion Plus and the 3D issue that the TV was unable to change refresh rates. 3D needs at least 120hz and I think it was stuck on 60hz the whole time. Every time I tried to tell Samsung my thoughts they basically were helpless and frustrating to talk to after over five calls and hours spent with them.

I finally decided to just call Amazon and they were extremely helpful and they exchanged the TV. I got my new TV 4 days later and everything worked great.

The 3D Blu Ray is amazing. It's just like seeing it in the theater. I was amazingly surprised by the 2D->3D conversion. It's not like most things are jumping out of the screen, but the depth is great to have and adds a lot to almost any program. It's awesome watching sports and I can't wait to see the World Cup in 3D.

I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a 3D television.
Unbelievable TV!

We finally decided to replace our 12 year old 26 in. tube TV and what a difference! You could argue that anything would be an improvement over what we had (and there would be truth to that), but we are so happy with our final decision to purchase this TV. After much research and price comparison and indecision and fear of buyer's remorse, we couldn't be happier with our purchase. The 3D features and net apps are nice, but we would be equally impressed without any of this. Bottom line....the picture quality is what makes this TV so impressive. Others may pick apart various other "extra" features (3D, net apps, etc.), but isn't a TV supposed to ultimately be about picture quality? That's truly where this TV excels. Also, we couldn't have had a better experience with Amazon. Definitely the best price around and the delivery process was seamless.
Very Nice LCD

Can not speak to the 3D Blu-ray yet because im waiting on the PS3 upgrade but the set itself is great. The picture is better then i expected and thats saying alot because all of my TVs are Samsung and i didnt think it could get much better. I like that media player thats built in more and more each day because i have a library of burned Blu-rays on an external hard drive that i can just plug and play(.ts format) right into the TV. There are plenty of toys that came along with it but i like that one the best. The internet TV is a plus too with Netflix and Youtube. I dont like the fact that Skype comes with only certain LEDs, but i did talk to Samsung and they said it maybe availble later. All in all it was a good by for me at $1385 even without the 3D(i cant wait). I really dont see the point of spending an extra 700-900 on a LED with a smaller screen, because if you think the picture is better(which it isnt) it's not by much.
Sweet LCD and great entry into 3DTV

Bought this TV after I learned that the World Cup would be broadcast in 3D. Had to switch to DirectTV in order to watch, but that's another story.
This is a GREAT LCD tv, even if you don't have any 3D content to watch yet. Excellent contrast, cool features, and it looks nice too. If you want it for the 3D you won't be let down. All my friends are impressed that the 3D doesn't look "cheezy" like you might expect from movies. It is more like HD times 2. You get crystal clear picture and amazing depth perception.
I recommend this TV for entry into 3D. But I would say if you have the money, get the biggest 3DTV you can realistically afford. With 3D, the bigger the screen size the better.
Excelent TV set, great value for your money!!!

The images from 3D Blueray movies are awesome. Nevertheless, the 2D to 3D conversion is not to good but it is ok. I did watch the final world cup in 3D, it was very very cool.
Great 3d TV for the money!

Im writing a very short review as of now and will update it as I use it more and more. To start, the TV appearance is stunning as one would expect with a Samsung TV. I am also becoming a fan of the new stands on the 2010 series TV's. The TV was much thinner than I anticipated as well. Obviously not as thin as an LED screen but its the thinnest LCD I've seen. The 2D picture is amazing for an LCD. If you have ever seen the Samsung LN46B750, it is very similar to that. DirectTV HD channels are amazing and my Sony PS3 Blu Ray player displays a very good picture. I calibrated the movie mode with the calibration settins on the LN46B750 settings on CNET and it looks pretty dang good. If you are a gamer, make sure you turn game mode on otherwise you will notice a lag. The built in media player is pretty cool as well. I plug my Ipod into it and play it off the TV. I am still waiting on my 3d blu ray player and glasses yet so I'm sorry I dont have any input on the 3d part of the TV yet. I am also going to buy a Samsung Linkstick to use the internet widgets so I will update on that as well. Overall, this set is a very good 3d TV at the price. Sadly the price has gone up on this set to $1529. I got mine for 1314.68 but it is still worth every penny.
Wow... just wow

Even without 3D this is an excellent buy. The picture is crisp and clear. The black level is excellent. Sports programming is clear with the 240 hz refresh. Add to it the wow factor of 3d and you have a fantastic package. I love bring in friends and having them try the 3D part. They look sooo funny dodging branches or birds on the 3D programming.
very happy

Finally bought this set after I returned a pn50c8000. It has really nice blacks and great pop when sitting in the sweet spot. I got an sq01 with no dead pixels. One very very minor flashlight in one corner, zero clouding. Excellent uniformity. Apps are a mixed bag. Some are hard to setup until you trawl the forums. Real 3d on bluray is awesome. Direct version has noticeable ghosting and not as fun. The backlight on this set is extremely bright. I set mine on 6. As for gaming I don't really find the lag a bother. Gaming mode helps. Then again I'm not a hardcore competitive game.

I bought this set not so much for 3d but for its virtues. First its lcd which means I don't have to worry about image retention or be annoyed by dithering artifacts. 3d is better on plasma but its not my main criteria for choosing a set. Second its not edge lit which is known, at least in the Samsung models, for poor viewing angle and poor uniformity. Third I stayed with the Samsung for its 10 pt gray scale and cms system. Last, I chose this set hoping that even if there is a panel lottery for this set they would allot a higher grade panel being it is the top model in the ccfl range. The 750 has only one part number for a replacement panel while all models below have multiple part numbers for replacement panels.

I am very happy with this set. A great step up from my ln40a750.
Full 1080P in 3D!

I bought the Samsung LN46C750 LCD TV to replace my Hitachi rear projection 1080i TV that had developed a convergence problem. My feeling was that it was time to go modern and get a flat panel model with 1080P capability for watching Blu-ray discs in their full glory.

To my surprise I found I could buy this Samsung 46-inch model with full 3D capability and 2D to 3D conversion for only a couple of hundred dollars more than the same size Samsung 2D-only LCD set, albeit, it didn't come with the required active 3D glasses for that price.

Hooking the TV up to my HT surround sound system was easy -- in fact it was easier than installing Samsung's swivel stand, mainly because the instructions were not as clear as they should be. The difficult part of getting the TV functioning in my system was figuring out how to set all the myriad settings in the multi-stage menu for optimum performance.

You see, out of the box, with all the factory defaults in place the picture looks overtly bright and a bit washed out because of this. I read the manual and navigated through complex settings I'd never heard of and after a while I was able to get a very good picture with lots of detail, wonderful color gradations/transitions, and a more natural appearance.

A few days later on a whim I looked for online reviews of this model and found an informative "expert" review at [...] The author, Jack Burden explained that in order to get the best possible picture from the LN46C750, it had to be set in the "Movie" mode because that is the only mode where the comprehensive menu can be fully accessed.

I printed out all the recommended settings from the review, went into the advanced menus and changed the settings one by one. When I was finished I had a picture that was so natural, detailed and vibrant, it was mind-blowing. Still I made a couple of minor tweaks to the final settings in a couple of areas and this improved my results a bit more. In stock form Samsung pushes the blue level up for dramatic effect but Jack Burden's recommended settings balance it out so that the color balance is more even and natural. Here is a link to the review: [...]

The day my 3D glasses arrived it just so happened that Comcast Cable was running a 3D broadcast of extreme BMX games. In 3D it looked like the stunt ramp descended steeply to the bowels of the earth. What a great show it was! When the contestants were jumping high off the top of the ramp it looked like they were coming right out into the room. One guy getting ready for his run pointed at the 3D camera and it looked like he was poking me in the eye. In the following show featuring some colorful dirt-track car racing they showed some inside-the-car shots in 3D that were pretty exciting and at one point some gulls circling the stadium must have flown very close to the camera location because it looked like they flew out into my room and then back into the stadium. The best part was that the precision detail and focus of the hi-def experience was convincingly maintained in the 3D format. I'm ready for so much more of this!

Note that I am running Comcast's Motorola DCX3400 cable box into an Onkyo TX-SR605 HT receiver... although the Onkyo receiver has HDMI version 1.3 inputs/outputs, it passed the 3D signal through to Samsung's HDMI ARC 1.4 input flawlessly.

That said, I was not blown away with Samsung's 2D to 3D conversion. Yes, it adds a higher degree of depth, but it's not real 3D and the picture is already so lifelike and glorious in regular 2D that I don't feel enough incentive to be confined to the glasses.

The picture quality of my Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player is purely amazing on this Samsung. Regular DVD's can fool you into thinking they are full HD because of the extreme detail afforded by the Oppo's upscaling feature. And full 1080P playback is simply jaw-dropping. The shadings and color variations in the Navi's forest home are indescribably glorious. Heck, I could see little specks of dust in the pores on Sigourney Weaver's forehead after she'd been running in the forest. In some scenes, there was too much detail to the point where it was unflattering to the actors... being to see every line, wart, and wrinkle on their faces and all.

I have not gotten around to experimenting with Samsung's computer applications at this time but hope to do so in the near future.

Reasons for my "4-star" rating -- two caveats to note: (1) The Auto Motion Plus feature definitely works but it's not always easy to predict which setting will work best. For most shows the "Clear" setting is quite good (recommended for fast motion). For the fastest motion you can turn Auto Motion Plus off, which is also good, but makes the picture a bit more jumpy in some scenes.

(2)The built-in speakers are not very good although they can be adjusted via the menu to sound acceptable. Personally I think you are wasting half of the experience of such a great TV if you don't hook it up to a very good multi-channel surround sound system.

If you get the picture settings right, like I outlined above, and install a sound system that has quality commensurate with the Samsung's superb video performance, you'll be in Home Theater heaven. And if your Home Theater happens to be located directly adjacent to the kitchen, you'll have the best of all worlds. Highly recommended!

Great TV for a great Value!

I was a little skeptical on buying a TV online. I always want to test what I buy, but after a city search and stopping everywhere I couldn't find the LCD 3d tv. After checking the 700 series of LED Samsung, I thought it was amazing, but I didn't want to spent almost $3000, not really. After doing my research an understanding the technology of LED, LCD and Plasma. LCD was sufficient and on my price range. This is an amazing TV I received it yesterday from Amazon, and must say they were great delivering it and it has not a scratch! As soon as replaced my old 46in 1080p Toshiba for this new Samsung the difference was astounding!!! The image is amazing and the internet features are even better! I can stream my Netflix and Napster!! I must say this tv is worth it without the 3d feature, it's a winner with this feature. The 3d I didn't tested it on an actual 3d show but I did use the feature to change 2d to 3d. It works great for video games since it gives it depth but it makes it a little darker, I need to change a couple of my settings. ( I am still waiting for my 3d blueray so I can test the 3d properly - I live in Nashville half the city was under water last weekend) The only thing I would say it's a disappointment it's that Samsung does not connect with my MAC only connects with PC but it was advertised and I knew before I bought it, also it doesn't read my Iphone on Media Play but I also knew this beforehand. If they could allow me to synch with my mac computer this would be the best TV I've ever bought for this amazing price
Darn good TV.

Well after alot of research on 3D tv's, and comparing prices and sizes, this is the tv I went with. What with 3d tv's still being a new thing and all, and Samsung being the only tv with 2d to 3d conversion at the moment this was a pretty good deal. Bought for less than 1300.00 and I must say the picture is great. The 2d to 3d conversion isnt as good as a real 3D Blu Ray, but it gets the job done. The LED versions of 3D tv's are highly over rated, and the power savings are minimal, like $30 a year. Not worth the extra money for the tv, but prices should begin dropping soon. I didn't care for the Auto Motion Plus on this tv, so I shut if off. And the only problem I have had so far, is where the left side of the screen becomes all pixilated and over saturated, but the right side is fine. If I turn on the AMP Demo mode, it is right in line with the defect. If I tap the tv it fixes it for a while. This is not a defect with this model, just the one I bought. Samsung is sending someone to fix or replace it next week. Overall, a very nice tv for the money, and again Samsung is the only ones with the 2d to 3d conversion.
a great TV at a great price

Previously I gave this TV a 1-star review because the first one that I received died within less than a minute (yes, I said less than a minute, and I mean that literally) of use after I got it. Amazon shipped me a replacement, so now I can review based on my experience with a working set.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the TV. I got a great deal on it (it's a lot less expensive here on Amazon than it was from any other store that I found), and so far I've been impressed with the quality of it. I don't have a lot to add to what has already been said in other reviews, but I'll throw out my impressions of it.

First, the good:

-- It has probably the best picture quality that I've seen on an LCD TV, and more than anything else, that's what I want out of a TV. The colors are bright, the blacks are black, and the clarity of the picture is excellent. From a good HD source, images just seem to pop from the screen. Even from an SD source, though, the material looks as good as could be expected. I did a lot of research and comparisons before buying, and honestly, I'd recommend this CCFL LCD set over just about any LED set out there except perhaps for the highest-end full array sets.

-- The quick response time is great for gaming. Just make sure that you actually put it in game mode, otherwise all of the video processing that the TV does in other modes will slow down the response time considerably and cause undesirable artifacts.

-- The built-in apps are great. I've mainly used the Netflix app so far (technically, I could do Netflix on some of my other connected devices already, but it's nice to be able to just bring it up on the TV without having to boot anything else), but it's got a lot of other great options available as well. That being said, do I really need Twitter on my TV?

Now, the bad:

-- There is a very minor amount of flashlighting in the lower corners of mine. It's only visible when the screen is completely black, and even then it's not enough to really be distracting, but it's there. That's LCD for you, though. One would think that by now they'd have figured out a way to eliminate this issue entirely.

-- The sound from the TV speakers is pretty bad. Maybe I'm just spoiled because I've gotten used to having my TV hooked up to a sound system (mine was disconnected for the first few days that I had the set because I'd just moved and hadn't gotten around to setting it back up yet), but I was still surprised at how poor it was, and how much it distorted at what should be completely normal volume levels. It's not utterly unlistenable, but I would definitely recommend a receiver and external speakers with this -- then again, if you're buying an HDTV of this quality, it's almost a given that you'll want a surround sound system anyway.

-- I don't watch a lot of sports, so I haven't tried the Auto Motion Plus with that type of programming yet, but you will want to turn it off with other TV viewing. Even at its lowest setting, the "soap opera effect" is quite pronounced. Not a big deal for the most part, since it can be turned off for most content. However, the reason why I'm calling this a negative, it seems to be applied to Netflix streaming content viewed through the built-in app regardless, and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off for that (I haven't tried other video apps, so I can't comment on those).

-- The glossy screen can be a bit too reflective. I have to turn off the lamp that's directly behind me when I'm watching TV, otherwise it is clearly reflected on the screen. It's not really a problem in the room that I have it in, but I imagine that if it were across from a window, the reflections during the daytime would be problematic (I guess get some curtains?).

-- The options to change some important settings, such as putting the TV in game mode or changing the level of (or turning off) Auto Motion Plus, are buried deep in the menus. And yet they wasted space on the remote for much less useful things like the Yahoo widgets (I mean, really, those can be accessed through the internet button, why do they also need their own?). It would have been nice if they'd made navigation to these important settings a bit easier.

I can't speak to the 3D features yet, as I'm holding out for the update to make the PS3 3D compatible and for more worthwhile 3D content to become available before investing in the glasses. It's nice to know that it's there, though, for "future-proofing" purposes. Hopefully the price on the glasses drops a bit soon, because right now that's by far the biggest barrier.

All in all, despite the negatives, I'd give this TV 5 stars, but because of my experience with the first one failing (and the hassle of getting it replaced) I'm docking it down to 4 stars. I hope that those problems aren't reflective of the overall reliability of these sets, but it did leave me with some concerns.
Defective Product Repaired

Reviewer: Robert Brooks,
I received this TV in good physical condition. The sound was good but the LCD picture did not work. It's a defective product and I am very sad to have spent $1,450.00 on it. I have never had problems with any Amazon product before. I will never buy any type of TV again from Amazon. I really got stuck with a Lemon. I took the TV to a Samsung repair shop and had the TV repaired. It does work great and I do enjoy the 3d video system. I think it is much better to purchase this item from a nearby physical store where such items can be returned without additional cost. The repair cost was only $35.00 which was much cheaper than sending it back to Amazon. It is a really neat product dispite the initial problem. I'll change my one star rating to a four star rating due to the fact that it is now working beyond my expectations.
Very nice but...

Reviewer: doctorsus,
For the price, this TV is excellent. The picture is superb. I cannot comment on the 3D part of the TV. I am spending quite a bit of time on the internet function. The reason that I gave this TV a 3 star is that about 2 weeks after receiving the TV, a line developed smack dap down the middle with the right side of the screen showing a perfect picture while the left side show greyed out blacks and pixelation. Amazon replaced the TV with no hassle, but I don't expect to pay this kind of money for a product to fail so quickly. I noticed that another person in my area also recently rated this TV and had the same thing happen to his. Just a word of caution. I am on the second TV and things are working perfectly again. The HD picture is clear and even in a bright room, the glossy screen doesn't show any reflections for me. This TV would be a 5 star if it continues to work the way it should. I am just noting that maybe there is a problem with this model that may start showing up more...
HDMI inputs do not work

this tv is awesome. The standard tv upconverted to 3d is decent, but in HD the TV looks really good. 3D is so entertaining, I can not stop watching the only things in 3d that are made (the avatar 3d game and monsters vs aliens). It is an awesome deal and over 1300 lower than any 3d tv at your local store. You have to check it out. It met my expectations and passed them.

EDIT After trying out the HDMI inputs on my TV I found that none of them work and are dead on arrival. Would not buy this TV nor suggest it.

While it does have some nice gimicky features, as a "TV" it leaves a bit to be desired.

You will most likely NEVER use the 3D feature. They charge WAY TOO MUCH for glasses that will only work with Samsung TV's... PICK A STANDARD INSTEAD OF RAPING YOUR CUSTOMERS!!

DLNA is nice to stream videos from a PC running Windows Media Center or other similar services. But it has limitations in this TV. With all components running directly connected to a gigabit switch, it still takes WAY TOO LONG to load anything. Fast forward and rewind are not available. That in itself is ridiculous and makes it nearly worthless. You are much better off using the TV as a monitor connected to a seperate computer. But then why bother on a TV with all these features? Simply put, they don't work well, so don't pay extra for them!

The major killer..... Even with the backlight and contrast turned all the way up (you can't turn the brightness itself above a medium setting without everything getting washed out), the screen is just too dark! With all room lighting off, still too dark.

Bottom line... If you must have a TV, maybe Samsung isn't the best anymore (at least not in this Series). If money is no option, spring for the high end LED backlit models. Then again, you wouldn't be considering this TV anyways.

Don't buy, Don't buy!

If I could swap it in for a different model, I would in a heartbeat! Samsung, you disappoint heavily here..

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Perfect for Blu-ray and Gaming

Review Date: June 27, 2010
Reviewer: Matthew Gilmore, Rainbow City, AL USA
I purchased this HDTV off Amazon about two weeks ago, and I am beyond pleased with it. I replaced a 26" Vizio 720p LCD with this. The features that really drove me to this TV is the LED backlighting and the 120Hz processing. This TV has a stunning picture quality with some of the deepest blacks and great color. The 120Hz TruMotion has really gotten me though. It makes everything much more realistic, almost to a point to being scary sometimes. Watching Blu-rays with the TruMotion on the highest setting almost takes you out of the movie. It's beyond cinematic, and it seems like I'm just looking out a window watching the actors in real life. It's not bad by any means, and in fact, I can't go back to not having it, but it may be too much for some people. You do have the option to adjust it, and you can even turn it off altogether.

I use this TV currently for the following devices: an Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Gateway PC, and Comcast Digital HD package. Gaming is great. I've noticed everything I've played so far has been super smooth and the response time is phenomenal. I've tried the following 360 games on it with great results: Halo 3, Need for Speed; Shift, Alan Wake, Modern Warfare 2, and Split/Second. The Wii looks a bit worse on this TV than on the small Vizio, but I imagine it's the increased screen size. I have the Wii hooked up with component cables and set to 480p widescreen, but playing Super Mario Galaxy 2, The Conduit, No More Heroes 2 looked kind of bad. I know the Wii is not an HD console, but it's a bit disheartening to see some of the better Wii's graphics downgraded. Now, with the PS3, I don't game to much, and I've yet to play a game on it with this TV, but as far as the Blu-ray goes, it's been outstanding. This TV is enough to make me just skip the theater and wait for movies to release on BD. Blu-ray movies have such amazing clarity on this set, and the 3-dimensional feel is incredible. I played The Dark Knight, and the movie is so deep. With this kind of picture, I think I can wait a decade for 3D HDTVs to prove themselves more worth it to me. My Comcast HD looks nice, too. I know it's not 1080p, but there's no complaint. The TruMotion is great in the case of sports, and watching Braves baseball is more enjoyable due to it.

I'm loving my TV, and I'd say traditional LCDs should be no more. LED is so much better, and the LGs are priced very reasonably. I can't believe I got this for $850.
Very Pleased!

This is my first flatscreen TV. I bought the TV based on 4 specific features: 120Hz refresh rate, the LED backlight (and resulting power savings), the ability to play video files from USB, and 24P Real Cinema feature. I'm glad I made the purchase. Setup was easy, with only 8 screws to attach the stand to the TV. The unit is stable. I'm impressed by how thin the TV is. All the front lights can be turned off. The screen is a matte finish (no reflective cover). The TV doesn't have networking capability, but I wanted to buy the best TV I could afford and then use a Blu-ray player to provide the network interface.

I didn't know much about HDTVs a week ago and what I learned after about 8 hours of research and reviews is that the picture I actually see on the screen is heavily dependent on the source signal and the many different conversions the signal may go through (frame rate, aspect ratio change, deinterlacing, etc.) before it actually gets to the screen (the result of not feeding it a pure 1080p HDTV signal over an HDMI cable). I was really frustrated over looking at TVs in retail stores because doing comparisons side-by-side, I figured, was useless unless I knew what the original source video was and whether or not all the settings in the TV were set right. I ended up buying this TV because I figured it would give a great picture so long as I fed it with good source video. So far, that's true.

Right now, I only have a DVD player and a USB hard drive connected to it. My cheap little $20 DVD player outputs in 480i or 480p. The 480i signal has less jaggies on this TV than 480p. My guess is that the deinterlacer in the DVD player is low quality, so the 480p signal fed to the TV is not so good. I'm confident a 480p signal will look better once it's coming from a decent upconverting DVD player or Blu-ray player. All my anamorphic widescreen (1.78, 1.85, and 2.35) DVDs display great with the TV set to 16x9. 4:3 TV stuff (like old X-Files videos) display properly too. DVDs are clear, crisp and smooth.

I'm really impressed by the ability to play videos from a USB drive. So far I've played .avi, .mkv, .vob and .divx files up to 720p quality and file sizes between 500 MB and 2.1 GB. (When I hit the Info button on the remote, it looks like most of my .avi and .mkv files are encoded as MP4 and H.264, if that helps.) Windows .wmv files do not play. Quality is beautiful! No stuttering or pixilation. One problem I've faced, however, is the audio and video getting out of sync on some videos after about 20 minutes of play (the video starts to lag behind). I've been able to re-sync it by pressing stop and play. (Maybe it'll get fixed with a firmware update? Or maybe it's a problem with my files?) By the way, USB videos can be resumed from where you left off if you press stop or if the video stops. Once in awhile, videos will just stop on their own, but I'm able to start them again and they'll pick up and play just fine where they left off. I don't know if that's an issue with the file, the USB drive, or the TV. Aspect ratio modes are limited in USB mode: I only get the option of "Original size" or "Full" (which expands the video to the entire TV). Haven't had any problem yet with the "Full" setting because all my video files appear to be encoded in widescreen formats.

The LED backlighting is adjustable, either by changing the AV mode (standard, cinema, sports, etc) or by setting the power saving feature to "Auto". At full strength, I see some LED light vignetting at the corners of the screen when there's just a black image being displayed. (I see the same thing on my LED PC monitors).

I don't have much to compare it to, but the remote works just fine for me. It took a little bit to figure out how to get to all the features (especially the 24P Cinema Mode, which is a couple menus deep).

Sound is just fine for my tastes. The volume runs from 0 to 100 and gets plenty loud enough to be too loud when sitting about 7 feet away. Sound quality is fine and actually has a pretty good frequency response range...it's not tinny or muffled. ClearVoice does add some crispness to voices.

TruMotion is kinda neat. It "interpolates" and inserts additional frames which really smooths out motion on any video I've fed it so far. Sometimes the results are desirable...sometimes not. On a "I am Legend" DVD, for example, setting the TruMotion to "Low" smooths out the video and adds to the quality in my opinion. It does add a little bit of the "Soap Opera Effect"--unnaturally clear and smooth video when compared to traditional 24-frame per second movies, so I just turn TruMotion off if I don't like the result. On some of my HD video from the USB drive, TruMotion makes motion more blurry, so I just turn it off. Again, the benefit seems to be dependent on the frame rate and quality of the original video signal.

The 120Hz refresh rate and the 24P Real Cinema mode are all about displaying film and video at their native frame rates without the need to do "pull down" frame rate coversions to the video signal which can cause judder (stuttering). I'm still learning about "judder" and "pull down" so I really don't have anything to compare good vs. bad video quality. I can say that I don't experience any stuttering no matter what DVDs I play.

I love the quality I'm getting out of this TV right now and it's only going to get better when I can actually feed it full 1080p signals. I will definitely look at LG LED-LcD TVs when it comes time to buy a bigger TV for the living room.

I learned a lot about this TV's features by reading the online manual at LG before I bought. I now have the CD manual which is 178 pages and goes into a lot more detail about what the TV can do. If you want a copy, send me an email at rgknowlton at hotmail dot com.

I have never purchased a television online. I was pleased in ALL aspects of this purchase. My last TV was an HD 60Hz 27 inch. I was nowhere prepared for the picture that I would get from this HDTV. The 120HZ and the contrast make a picture that is almost creepy at how real it is! The setup was easy and I only needed to glance through the instruction manual. I hope LG continues to produce 37 inch HDTVs. I can only imagine what the picture will look like when the refresh goes up!! I would purchase this again without a second thought!
Overall performance of LG LCD 37LE5300

Review Date: July 18, 2010
Reviewer: DMORG, STEUBENVILLE, OH USA
This LG HD LCD 27LE5300 this is an overall exceptional HD Television. The Qualify, Reliability, Performance and ease of use is the best TV performance I have experienced. I have a Samsung 52 inch HD TV and an Westinghouse 32 inch HD TV. Neither matches this LG HD TV model. The only drawback that it has is that LG does not include a paper User Manual. They provide a CD disc with the the User Manual. Since my LG is not even on the same floor as my TV, when I needed a particular answer for setup, I had to run downstairs and look it up and then run upstairs to try to apply what I looked up. This sometime didn't work and it was back to the computer. I ended up printing numerous pages to setup the TV correctly. I still give this TV 5 stars due to the mostly ease in setting up with out the manual.

we wanted to upgrade our tv and went shopping in various electronic stores and costco - it was great to see the new lcd-led tv's in person, as the picture quality is amazing. however, we needed a specific size and could not find it in any of the stores we visited. amazon had a listing from an electronics shop we never heard of, but its postive reviews gave me confidence to order it. we are quite happy - the tv came in 2 days via free shipping. it wasn't too hard to set up and the picture and features are great.
we are happy with it!

This purchase was a most pleasant experience. The television has all the features I wanted (37" LED, 120hz, 1080p) and the picture quality is excellent. Also the delivery was without flaw. The price was right and resulted in a good value purchase. A most satisfying experience.

I give it 5 stars, what else can I say. The USB port on the side is handy for watching our Flip camera. The TV's software lets you pick which video files you want to watch using the TV's remote.

I bought this model to replace an already great 720p LCD HDTV, but wanted an LED model. The LG doesn't disappoint. Stunningly clear and deep picture presents an almost 3D effect especially when viewing Blu-ray discs, and uses only 60% of the energy of the non-LED model. Definitely worth the upgrade.

It is the best picture I have seen. It only use 34w in home mode at little darker family room (37 inch TV!)only 1 light is on. But the remote favorite channel button is useless. You need hit more times than direct move channel up/down. I think the best remote design is SHARP.

Just Ordered Another One...

Review Date: July 13, 2010
Reviewer: J. Carpenter,
This is an excellent TV, especially for the price point - beautiful, sharp colors, great viewing angle, very thin LED design, and light weight as compared to traditional LCDs. While I would generally prefer a larger screen, the space I bought it for - Armoire in a bedroom, would only accommodate 32in. This is a perfect size for a bedroom or smaller living space. I compared this TV against a leading brand 32in LED at a local store and while this LED was slightly thicker and heavier, the colors on the screen were much brighter and facial features much more defined than the competition - and best of all its less expensive. The design is very modern - sharp lines, thin LED. It states Silver Grey in the description, but the bezel and stand are glossy black. I like it so well, I just ordered another one on Amazon.com!
Just got it

Reviewer: Will Kennedy,
I just received the TV today. I must say it looks pretty good. Better than any other 32" LED LCD I could find except for the 5400 model. I will update later.

PROS:(so far) Great picture the colors are so beautiful especially after calibration, sound is okay, inputs, I like the remote, Menus are easy to use, picture wizard helps a lot, Amazon shipped promptly

CONS: The owners manual is ignorant. Its not organized well at all. There is a CD that came with it, but I would rather not have to deal with that. THE TV IS NOT SILVER GRAY! ITS BLACK. I wanted a silver gray finish since I was designing a room. Trumotion is garbage. Its choppy and gives me a headache. The TV looks great with it off. I noticed it watching the World Cup games and watching blu-rays :(

I would recommend this TV to anyone looking for a 32" LED. Best deal and picture that I've seen and I've researched for the past month now. In fact, all the LGs I viewed were to me and spec-wise best in their respective class.

*IF ANYONE HAS ANY PROFESSIONAL CALIBRATION SETTINGS PLEASE POST THEM HERE! I would appreciate it.*

I got the tv yesterday. The picture is fantastic. The facial features of actors are extremely clear.
I used a digital optical connection and cable to connect the tv to my stereo. The stereo is just an 85 W sony a/v with two speakers.
When operated this way, the sound is as good as the picture.
The paper owner's manual is a bit of a negative. A disc is included, but I haven't tried that yet.
I would definitely recommend this tv.
Amazon had the lowest price and free shipping.
Great TV

Reviewer: acbatchelor, TN, USA
Definitely one of the best TVs I have ever used. Actually it is the best, but this is the first LED TV I have ever owned so it is not fair to the others. Great picture, great features, and good sound. I don't know if the sound is good enough to call great, but it is definitely better than all my previous TVs.

The only bad thing about this TV is that the holes on the back of this TV for a wall mount are very close together. The wall mounts that work for the other 8 or 10 TVs in my house will not fit this one. The only wall mounts that work for this TV are small ones that I don't like. Also the manual is confusing because it is made for several different models and the layout is poor. However, most of what is in the manual it common sense.

I am very impressed that so far this TV has got 5 stars on 5 out of 6 reviews here, and 5 stars on all 52 reviews on Best Buy!

UPDATE: By the way, I notice people saying that truMotion is bad, garbage, etc. It actually is not. I found out that sometimes it is choppy and sometimes it is not. For me it is only choppy if I am watching something that is not HD or if it is an old movie that was made before HD existed and converted to HD. But, for shows that is true HD or for games like XBOX 360 it is a good feature. I have mine turned off on my HDMI 1 because it is where I watch TV shows. However, I have it turned on for HDMI 2 since I have my XBOX connected there.
I can see!

Especially very good for people who don't know squat about programming the tele for certain color settings the menu makes it easy. LED lighting on an LCD display makes it seem less intense than other televisions of this same quality and size. Best thing is the LG energy saving option saves you more than a few $$ which is a total bonus for these electronics

Not So Great

Review Date: August 13, 2010
Reviewer: Tim TheEnchanter,
Pros:
Nice looking TV
Vivid colors
LOTS of picture adjustments
Decent remote

Cons:
Spot lighting: Two obvious cones of light bleeding through along the top
Some cable channels judder and skip with Cinemotion off and/or on. Probably mostly due to the cable signal, but other TVs don't do it.
Some what difficult to assemble the stand

Major issue: From the start I received a prompt that told me something new had been connected to the 2nd A/V input even though nothing was ever plugged into that input. It would come up randomly and sometimes not go away until I pressed ENTER on the remote. Service technician indicated that a microprocessor would have to be replaced. Ultimately decided to return the TV to Amazon because I was still under the 30 day return policy.

The hardware issue combined with the above cons led me to go with a different TV. LG still seems to have weak TVs and LED technology may not be where it needs to be to replace regular LCDs back lights. Went with a SONY LCD and did not have any black light bleeds and the blacks were darker than this TV.

I probably got a bad set, but still: Buyer beware.

NOTE: The LG tech service was really helpful and I had a service technician at my house within 4 days of making the call.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

Graphic for determining the right size HDTV for your room

With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

An excellent HDTV

Review Date: August 2, 2010
Reviewer: Joe Hayes, Snellville, GA USA
I recently purchased this TV for our workout room to help pass the time while running on the treadmill. I must say that I am very happy with this TV. It is big enough to see from across the room, the picture is very sharp, and the sound is pretty good. I am feeding it with HDMI from a splitter off my cable box and it works awesome. I also have it connected directly to the cable feed and standard definition viewing is OK but a wide screen always looks that way on standard def. I also have to agree with the other reviewer, because it is an anti-glare screen there are no issues seeing the TV from across the room, nice.

I mounted mine with a simple wall bracket that was about $25 that was from Amazon too, http://amzn.to/dk6igS. The wall bracket fit perfectly, works great, and was really easy to install. I will add some pictures to the product page later.

Thank Vizio for another great product!

Great Little HDTV

This is a great little HDTV for the kitchen. I have no problem with the sound and the picture is very sharp. The TV is thin and unobtrusive on my counter. I did not use the stand.
Great Buy For A Student Going Back to School

Review Date: August 15, 2010
Reviewer: KEN 03,
Package shipped and arrived earlier than I expected, as usual with Amazon, and besides a hole and small rip in my box, it was a great buy. The picture quality was superb and the overall design is great. Only downside is the sound wasn't all that great but it's expected from a small TV such as this. It's perfect for a college student such as myself who lives in a dorm, or anyone who lives in a small apartment or small room. Doesn't take up too much space at all. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a small TV with great picture quality for a reasonable price.
Vizio 22in LED, great!

Purchased this TV from Walmart for $250 (should have gotten it from amazon cheaper, but i like to look at a tv before i buy it).

Used primarily for HD Video Gaming (it is my travel set).

This tv is FANTASTIC.

PRO's
Crisp, clear picture.
The sound is much better than i expected from a small tv/speakers.

It is very thin, and very light. i have no problem lifting and manuevering this tv with one hand.

CON's
The 22in Vizio does require some fiddling to get the best picture out of it.
TruSurround is to be used at your discretion. However, i like it. It actually makes me look behind me sometimes, dangit. (this is good, lol)
The viewing angle up and down is not so good. I have a stand that is slightly above eye level, and i have to crank up the brightness to keep a clear picture.

OVERALL
Great TV, great buy, if you can find it for $200 THAT WOULD BE A STEAL!
Perfect TV for a small/medium sized room!

Reviewer: Joey Buslon,
A perfect TV for a small to medium sized room. Buy this TV...for the money and what you get out of it, nothing beats it in its class!

Picture quality is awesome and the TV is very thin.

Again, for what you pay for it (bought it at [...]), nothing beats it.
VIZIO M220VA REVIEW

Nice thinny with exellent 1080p quality. Easy set up but go easy putting the stand on, the clips could break.
If you have hdmi plugs, use them for best picture quality. The 22inch monitor is small but its perfect for a bedroom or small room. This thinny has LED and LCD so I just had to have it. I know LED's are the newest and price testy so far but this outfit seems to be a great buy.
I recommend another good choice to match this awsume flat screen jewel. Hook a DVD/DVR HDMI/IorP up the unit with the hdmi cables. oooh!!sooo good.
I got a Toshiba DR420 HDMI/1080I dvd player/recorder from Amazon awhile back and love it also.
This dvr/recorder was another great Amazon purchase.
I always return to Amazon before I buy anything. No tax, free shipping, fast delivery and you will always find exactly what you want.

Good Mid-Range LED TV

Review Date: May 6, 2010
Reviewer: Jonathan C. Huang,
I recently purchased the new VIZIO M220VA 22-inch LED TV, and so far it seems to be a solid performer. Of course, I feel that it is my obligation to point out that this model is NOT meant to be a high-end set. If you purchase this with such an expectation, you will be disappointed. However, if you are looking for a good, affordable LED LCD TV with great picture quality, you would have a difficult time finding a better bang for your buck than this.

Let me start by expressing how very annoyed I get when I read reviews that get so caught up in only pointing out superficial flaws and never even touch upon the most important aspects - picture and sound quality. Yes, this TV does have it's quirks: the remote is a little stiff and can be a little fickle sometimes. The stand is difficult to put on and literally took me a good 15 minutes to figure it out. However, despite these flaws, this television does deliver where it matters.

Picture quality is quite good, especially for a TV in its price range. Standard definition content looks sub-optimal, but this is due to the nature of how SD video is scaled by HDTVs in general, and nothing to do with this model specifically. High-definition content looks excellent, and I have had good experiences watching 720p/1080p movies from my laptop (through the VGA output). The picture is bright, crisp, and contrast is great. Blacks are rich and solid, without losing the subtle detail in the content. Keep in mind, though, that in order to get the most mileage, you will need to spend some time to calibrate the settings to give you an optimal picture quality. Games look great and there is no ghosting with the TV's fast 5ms response time.

The screen has a matte finish, which is great if your environment has lots of lighting, as the matte surface will suffer far less from glare than a glossy screen would. There is a never-ending debate over whether one type of screen surface is better than the other, but I'll leave that for another day.

Sound quality on the other hand is nothing to write home about. The speakers are a bit weak, but this is easily solved by using a set of external speakers. I am currently using an old set of computer speakers hooked up via the headphone jack on the TV, and they sound infinitely better than the TV speakers after turning off the "SRS TruSurround" option (some sort of faux-surround sound simulator).

The VIZIO has a decent number of inputs in the back, with 1x Composite, 1x Component, 2x HDMI, 1x VGA w/ Audio, 1x USB (for photos), and an optical input for a home theater sound system. It is worth noting that HDMI and component inputs are located directly on the back of the model (composite inputs are on the side), so if you are planning on wall-mounting it, it may be difficult to plug in the necessary connections if you don't leave enough room between the wall and the TV.

Also, it is worth noting that the previous reviewer stated that there is no way to remove unwanted channels individually. This is FALSE. Under the "Master Channels" menu, you have the options to "Mark All", and "Unmark All" channels. Hitting right on the controller allows you to move up and down on the list to select individual channels to add/remove.

All in all, this is a good TV. It is certainly not perfect, and if you have more money to spend I would encourage you to shoot for a higher-end model. But for what it's worth, the VIZIO M220VA is a tough beast to beat in its division.
a strong contender in the 22-26 inch class

I must say that I am very pleased with this TV. It is a perfect fit for a bedroom. I beg to differ with some of the comments about the sound quality. The speakers are in front of the unit, not in the back as with many HDTV's. Yes the sound is a bit tinny, but it does not need to be cranked up to deliver sufficient sound for a 12x12 room. The picture quality is suberb for a smaller screen. The HD 1080p is indeed full HDTV and I am impressed with the LED backlighting. It is also a solid energy saver as it is rated at a 4.0 for energy efficiency. Yes, the remote could be improved, but I have to use a cable remote for my box so that is a non-issue for me. All in all I would definitely recommend this TV for the price. I am very satisfied with its performance thus far.
About what I expected.

I knew going in that this model, like most small flat screens, has tinny sound, so I can't ding it too hard for that. It sounds worse on some things than others and I can live with it for the types of shows I watch (History channel, TLC, news, etc.).

The picture is great - super clean with very natural colors. Even standard definition looks reasonably good, better than on my 61" model, I guess because everything's squished down more.

Rapid motion is more blurry than my 120Hz TV, but that would be a fault of all 60Hz models, which is pretty universal in this size/price range.

I'd agree with other reviewers that the remote is not ergonomically good, not fitting in the hand well and buttons that don't have a good feel. The volume is slow to change.

Overall I'm quite pleased with it.

Purchased from Amazon when they were price-matching WalMart's online price; even SS shipping arrived in three days. This TV (finally!) replaced the old 13" analog Sony that's been in our kitchen for 15 years.

Connected to our living room HT system via an HDMI splitter and 50' HDMI cable (which together added about $70 to the cost of the set) from the AV receiver, so it displays the same signal feeding the primary display (TiVo, Blu-ray, HD-DVD, HD cable box, Netflix, etc.). For this application we use the separate speakers installed in the kitchen fed by the receiver's Zone 2.

Also connected directly to our 40+ year old roof antenna (which hasn't been used since we got cable more than 20 years ago).

PICTURE (HD): It's just fine. Plenty of adjustment, and running a calibration disc from the Blu-ray player allowed it to be quickly brought into reasonable fidelity. Didn't worry too much about getting it perfect, since it's just there for casual viewing, but color fidelity is good, blacks are deep, and it's fine in the variable lighting conditions in the kitchen. There are a number of pre-sets for image adjustment, which I didn't use, and also picture enhancements like room-lighting compensation, which I also turned off. Typical of LEDs, the picture washes out as you move off axis, and this one seems pretty average in that regard. Uniformity seems good, especially for an inexpensive TV. No dead pixels.

PICTURE (SD): As long as the source is digital, SD image quality is quite good. I checked with an analog source (a DTV converter box), and it's as expected: nearly unwatchable. You need a digital cable box, satellite tuner, OTA DTV, or disc player with HDMI to get a good picture from this TV.

SOUND: We only use the internal speakers when tuning OTA stations, and the sound is just fine, much like the ancient CRT it replaced. Adequate for news and talk; plenty loud. If you were using this for a primary display to watch movies etc., I'd plug a set of decent powered speakers into the handy headphone jack.

TUNING: We live about 15 miles from Center City Philadelphia, and the set found and tuned (AFAIK) every digital station available, with ease. But that's with a roof antenna, so YMMV, maybe a lot. With a 1080p HDMI signal, the set had no issues with the 50' cable.

FEATURES: The remote is OK. The stand took some care and force to install, but was fine. (Note that it holds the screen tilted back maybe 10 degrees.) Didn't test the USB port. The set shuts itself off after a few minutes if there's no signal. The manual was nicely printed and written in clear English. The set was well packaged, and the apparent build quality was surprisingly good.

We're very happy with this TV. This is the first Vizio product we've purchased, and I'm hoping they're trying to be like Hyundai and become the low price/high reliability alternative to the established brands. Fingers crossed.

Bought this on Amazon for $251.00 total with shipping. Same set but older model at Wal Mart for $299.00. Very nice picture. Good sound. Lots of nice features at a very good price. Fast shipping! Very happy with purchase.
Solid display for direct viewing angle.

A very solid display with good picture - when viewed from directly in front of screen. All LCD displays loose image quality at some angle away from directly in front of the display, but this screen seems to suffer this problem more than average. It's only a minor issue for us, and offset by great picture and great value otherwise.

Product Description

Building on its award-winning 2009 Plasma line, Panasonic's 65-inch VIERA TC-P65S2 Plasma HDTV features a new panel with NeoPDP technologies that provide the best balance of black and white under brighter environments while also offering higher energy efficiency. The new NeoPDP Plasma panel also further reduces reflections and creates sharper pictures with higher contrast in brighter environments. This S2 series model provides 1080p resolution, full-time 1080 TV lines of moving picture resolution, and 600Hz Sub-field Drive for superb motion clarity.

This and other models in the S2 line offer Panasonic's VIERA Image Viewer feature, which enables you to play slideshows of JPEG images stored on SD memory cards, as well as the VIERA Link feature for controlling a variety of compatible components--from Blu-ray Disc players to digital cameras--through a single remote.

Adhering to Panasonic's commitment to the environment, this VIERA model--as well as all 2010 models--features improved power consumption and meets the new, more stringent Energy Star 4.0 requirements. And you'll get a long Plasma panel life of up to 100,000 hours--more than 30 years of viewing when watched 8 hours a day--before the brightness of the panel decreases to half.

Panasonic's VIERA S2 series Plasma HDTV.

Key Features

NeoPDP: By redesigning the Plasma panel's cell structure and developing an innovative new filter, Panasonic has tripled the luminous efficiency (compared to 2007 models) of its VIERA Plasma HDTVS--resulting in stunningly beautiful images while also reducing power consumption.

1080 Moving Picture Resolution: With 1080 lines of moving picture resolution and integrated NeoPDP technology's high-speed drive performance, the display time for each image frame is shortened to minimize afterimages, making decisive calls in football matches and delicate motions in figure skating performances appear crystal clear.

600Hz Sub-field Drive: 600Hz technology lets you view superb full-HD motion and still images with 1080 lines of resolution. For even greater clarity with motion images, Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology, which converts the motion in each scene into data. And each frame is practically displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce aftereffects (see an illustration of 600Hz technology).

VIERA Image Viewer: View full-HD images with the integrated SD card slot, enabling you to view JPEG photos captured from your digital camera or camcorder on the big screen. Navigate your images via an easy-to-use thumbnail display.

VIERA Link: Allows the interlinked operation of various AV devices--from DVD and Blu-ray Disc players to home theater sound systems to digital cameras and camcorders--using only the VIERA remote control by simply connecting the devices to each other by an HDMI cable (see pop-up illustration).

Game Mode: With Game Mode, quicker image response increases the enjoyment of video games when a game console is connected to the TV. What's more, VIERA produces the dark images in video games more clearly. This mode works with the anti-image retention (wobbling) function, too.

A Fantastic Television With a Few Shortcomings

Review Date: July 4, 2010
Reviewer: Raul G., USA
I've spent the last 2 months researching my next television purchase. I'm one of those people that over-researches the pros and cons of any major purchase. I specifically set out at the beginning of my research to purchase a television for my finished basement. Since I can easily control ambient light pretty much any display technology was on the table - Plasma, LCD, LED-LCD, DLP, etc. I love the picture quality of DLP sets but ultimately decided to rule out that technology mainly because of the size (width) and the fact that I would eventually need to replace a bulb. I decided against traditional CCFL LCD displays too despite owning a Sharp Aquos LC46D84U. That essentially left me with LED-LCD and Plasma technology. After going back and forth I finally ended up deciding to go with Plasma. I think ultimately the deciding factors for me were the overall picture quality and cost.

I've been using my TC65S2 for about the last 2 weeks and I'm absolutely floored by the picture quality. I'm actually surprised at how much better the display looks than my Sharp Aquos. Black levels are incredibly detailed, inky-black that leaves my Aquos' display looking like it can only generate gray instead of a true black level. Out of the box the TV came on 'vivid' setting which makes colors impressively "pop" on-screen, however, it somewhat distorts flesh-tones and makes people appear a bit orange. I used my DVE HD Basics calibration disc and calibrated my TC65S2 myself. It's probably not as good as a professional calibration but I feel satisfied enough with the results.

The TV comes with additional pre-settings such as 'Cinema' and 'Game'. I've used both and I'm happy to say that the settings are actually useful. I use a PS3 for both gaming and watching Blu-ray movies. The cinema setting on BD movie playback tones down the overall brightness and gives movies a 'warm' color setting similar to movie theaters. The 'Game' setting is impressive too and maintains a good black level while increasing the overall color levels. I can honestly say that after playing God of War 3 on my Aquos and again on this set, it's like playing a different game. There are many areas in GoW3 that are extremely dark and I'm now noticing details that just weren't there with my Aquos. Everything looks cleaner, more detailed and colors are more accurate.

Aesthetically, Panasonic seems to trail Samsung, Sony and Sharp. While those companies have invested significantly in the looks over everything from their bezel to the remote, Panasonic maintains a cleaner and simpler look. Personally I don't have a problem with the subdued look - I'm more interested in the picture quality than anything else. That said the TV does have a pleasant piano-black glossy finish. That continues with the rather simple wedge-shaped stand that is included. The remote unfortunately leaves something to be desired. Perhaps most importantly it is not back-lit. Simple things like adjusting the volume in a dark room are easy due to the shape of the particular key, however, changing the input for example is not. I believe that the G-2x & VT Panasonic plasmas do offer a better & back-lit remote. After the first week or so I finally had the time to program my Harmony for my new TV and I won't miss the Panasonic remote at all.

The included television speakers are adequate but nothing impressive. Honestly, at 65" I think most folks that purchase a set like this are doing so for a home theater and have surround sound. I used the included speakers for about a day before I switched over to my home theater speakers.

Feature wise the S2 might be called "bare-bones" by some. Personally I was on the fence about getting a G25 or jumping up to the VT (3D) series. Ultimately though I think 2 things swayed me to the S2. First the size; I wanted to create a home theater setting and the G25 tops out at 54". Panasonic does make a 65" VT25 that is full-HD 3D, however, that set is around the $4000 dollar mark. With such limited 3D offerings currently on the market I just couldn't justify the price. Second, the extra bells and whistles in the more expensive sets like the G25 and VT series are nice though I'm not sure how often I'd watch YouTube videos or listen to Pandora radio on my TV. The Netflix integration is probably the best feature, however, I'm already getting that with my PS3. For someone looking for a TV with a great picture and not really interested in peripheral features, the S2 is the way to go!

Lastly, for those not aware Panasonic was recently in a bit of a scandal - at least as far as AV enthusiasts go - with their plasma sets. It seems that after varying degrees of usage Panasonic plasma TVs started losing their deep-black level. There is a lot of discussion on various AV sites about the severity of the issue but as noted by CNET's reviewing editors it does happen and it is an issue with the 2009 and earlier sets. For the S2, Panasonic is using a new Neo-PDP panel and it remains to be seen what will happen. This was an issue that nearly derailed my purchase of this set. However, after reading more into the issue and the fact that the change is gradual - not something that happens overnight - I felt like I could go ahead and make the purchase. I'll follow up in the months to come to this review and make comments as necessary. I'm hoping that with the 2010 sets Panasonic was able to mitigate the problem. Time will tell.

Other information:

- In the box this TV weighs in at 165lbs! The TV alone weighs 123lbs and 137lbs with the included stand. Be sure to have adequate help when setting up this TV! Fortunately Panasonic designed hand grips into the back of the set to make is somewhat less unwieldy.

- I've noticed that when using HDMI directly to my PS3 I can utilize some of the Viera-Link features. For example when I switch my television input to my PS3 it automatically powers on my PS3. Kind of a neat feature that I thought was only compatible with Panasonic products that are Viera-Link enabled.

- This features 3x HDMI inputs and 2x Component inputs. There are additional inputs for composite and SDHC. The S2 series lacks a lot of the additional inputs that you gain with the G2x or VT series like USB, ethernet, RS232C, PC, etc.

- For such a large plasma television, the S2 does not generate as much heat as I expected. Even after recently watching a long movie and then a World Cup soccer match the TV wasn't hot.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE 7/5/10:

One minor annoyance I just noticed today is that the volume controls are not unique to the input. Not a big deal if you're using a home theater setup as the TV volume wouldn't matter - just something that I noticed will tinkering around with my set.
The only way to go for a 65" format

We got the TV a week ago, did the 100 hour burn in using software available for free online. Then, a day spent calibrating it to our taste and when all that was done, we had a spectacular picture, especially sing our BR player. We have owned a Panasonic Plasma for four years now, no burned out pixels, no quality issues at all, hopefully this one will be equally as reliable.

For those that want to use this with your PC, understand that this is a next generation TV and isn't going to interface to a normal video card. If your PC is current, it may well have an HDMI port on it and then this TV will work just fine. Or, if your Blu-Ray player is Internet ready, you will be able to download movies to it and watch them on the TV.

The sound quality from the TV is marginal at best, I'm not even sure why they put speakers in the set. I can't imagine anyone buying a set this size and not using a home theater setup with it. When played through our Onkyo system, who cares about the TV speakers.

If you're like me, you've probably researched LCD, LED, HDLP and Plasma and in sets this size, the transitional capability is much better than the other technologies in my opinion. No matter the level of the set, every LCD/LED set I previewed had momentary blurring in fast action scenes like sports. I get none of that on the plasma set. Although our media room allows for the proper viewing angle from every seat, you can get well outside the ideal range and the plasma picture is still accurate and bright.

There is some glare off the screen in bright light but again, in a dedicated media room application, it's not an issue. The price of this set has been dropping pretty steadily so it's quite a bargain at under $2K. Do check it very carefully when delivered, including using a flashlight at an oblique angle on the screen to detect any hairline cracks. It wasn't a problem with mine but have heard of screen being broken in transit and hard to detect small cracks in normal light.

I think Panasonic owns the plasma field and this is a another step up in what they offer.
Excellent Value, Especially for the Price!

First Off ...

To the guy that rated it 1 star -- Dude, read the specs before you purchase something, especially a $2,000+ item ... geesh

Now, on to the P65S2 ... Hands down, an amazing buy. We got it when it was $2025 w/ free shipping from Amazon! Can't be the price! We did the 100 hour break in, calibrated it to our liking, and have loved it ever since.

We are moving up from a 42" 720p Panasonic plasma that is about 4-5 years old now. We plan to put that one in our bedroom, and the 65S2 is now in our bonus room. We sit about 10 ft away from it, and its just awesome! Picture/Clarity/Black levels are wonderful ... Sound, well ... Its not the greatest, as you can expect from a TV, thus the reason you need a decent Soundbar, 3.1, or 5.1.

At this point in owning it (2-3 weeks) I have yet to have a single issue. Pilot delivered it and did a great job in allowing me to set it up and test it!

Overall A+++ Experience from Amazon, Pilot, & Panasonic. Will likely continue to get Panasonic as long as they keep making great equipment like this.
If you go big, go for this one!

I bought this TV based on Raul's review. Thank you! I bought it on 8-20 and it was up and running in my home on 8-25. The delivery service was CEVA. They are a first class service, and sent two really nice guys to lug it upstairs and unpack it. The TV was not damaged anywhere, and they handled it with care.

I connected it to all my stuff, and the picture was great right out of the box. My calibration was a minor tweaking of some of the settings. The picture was bright and clear, with perfect color. Blu Ray movies are even better than I watched on my old Samsung 61 inch LED.

We are amazed at the picture, especially at this price. This is a true bargain.

Some people were disappointed by the 3 HDMI inputs. Well maybe one more would have been nice, but that problem can be solved with a receiver with multiple HDMI inputs or a lossless switch. Raul and others have done great reviews so no need to get into a lot of the technical aspects. I just wanted people to know who are considering this TV, to buy it. You don't have to be an electronics wizard to get a great picture.

Enjoy!!!!

Samsung Plasma Beats LED/LCD

Review Date: May 1, 2010
Reviewer: Happy in Ohio, Ohio
I had the c8000 55" LED for over 3 weeks and loved the bright and clear picture, but it was hard to get the settings right for normal viewing, the viewing angle was atrocious vs. even LCD screens, and parts of the screen in dark scenes still have some clouding. I sent the LED back and purchased the c8000 58" plasma. I'm very happy with it so far, especially after tweaking the settings. Now, I have all the pop of the LED but with consistent colors, better blacks and unlimited viewing angle. The details. . . .

Pros

Great uniform picture - great price the $ vs. LED. Easy to self-calibrate vs. the LED Samsung.

Remote is very nice compared to the bluray remote (same as the c8000 LED remote), but I'm using a Harmony 900 for all my components so it isn't used.

You can turn off the motion judder canceller and ditch the soap opera effect when watching movies. Cinema Smooth makes high-end movies look great.

Bright screen compared to plasmas I've had.

Real 3D content (Monsters v. Aliens) looks great (even with a 1.3 highspeed HDMI cable -- however, 2D to 3D conversion of regular programs gives only nice depth - not pop out 3d.

Very thin TV - fairly lightweight for a plasma - nice stand (stainless) and bezel (dark gray), but not as cool in my opinion as the LED version which has a stainless bezel.

Netflix app works through both through the TV and the bluray and surprisingly has good pic quality - not bluray like, but close to DVD quality with no glitches (assuming you have a fast internet connection).

Much less screen glare than the c8000 LED. This TV does not have a matte screen like many other LCD HDTVs, but Real Black Filter kills the glare much better than the c7000 plasma I saw at BB. Note that the c8000 LED has an incredibly shiny screen, making it difficult to watch in a bright room.

Like all plasmas, the screen looks the same despite your seating position in the room. The c8000 LED has a good picture when straight on - but move a few feel off center and the picture would fade substantially. No such problems here.

Cons

TV isn't wifi - need a $80 adapter or have to hardwire it - TV firmware didn't update through the adapter - had to update on Samsung site with USB.

Overall a top notch TV that is larger than the LED, has a better and more uniform picture, lower glare, better off angle viewing and is cheaper. What is not to like? Here are my settings after having the TV a month. If you have a bright room or if you like the "pop" of the LED, these settings will blow you away. If you have a dark basement or watch only at night, dial the CellLight back to 10 or so and maybe put the color on normal vs. cool and you'll be set:

CAL-DAY Mode, Cell Light 20, Brightness 50, Color 50, tint 50/50, Sharpness 40, cool, native, MJC off, Filmmode 1, black (darker), dynamic contrast (med), gamma 2, other settings on auto. Cinema Smooth to "on" but it only works on bluray 24p input.
Picture Perfect in Ohio

Reviewer: M. Van Allen,
An amazing plasma TV! Wanted to upgrade from a bulky and heavy projection TV upstairs to new flat screen TV to make a media room in finished basement. Wanted latest 3D technology that wouldn't become obsolete so soon. Didn't go to local stores to view demonstration of TVs since don't know how well they are set up. Instead relied on Internet reviews posted on various models by owner of new TVs. Samsung PN58C8000 plasma recived lots of good reviews including comments on how picture didn't change with viewing angle or across screen, 600 Hz sub-field motion, deep blacks and only 1.5" thick.

This was most expensive purchase we've made thru Internet & it turned out fine! Order was completed on a Tuesday morning, set was shipped Tuesday afternoon and arrived at our Ohio home that Friday morning in fine condition. Set was placed on VAS TV stand we got from local Walmart that allowed 70 degrees rotation left or right so it could be viewed at kitchen or media room. Stand that came with TV provided 20 degrees left or right rotation. Used HDMI 1.4 cables to connect Samsung 3D Blu-ray disc player BD-C6900 and cable box. Set had no noticeable buzzing with or without ferrite cores on power cord which smooth out power voltage spikes. Set was manufactured in June 2010 so buzzing reported by some earlier reviews must have since been fixed by Samsung. We have not yet used Internet to upgrade TV firmware.

2D
After using and testing this plasma PN58C8000 TV for over two & a half weeks, it is capable of providinig an essentially perfect picture at any angle and across screen from edge to edge. It is amazing how picture has much better detail, bolder colors, brighter screen and very sharply outlined text than older 1080i projection TV.

Many adjustments can be made to picture in Mode, Advanced Settings and Options menus. Most can be left either at factory settings, Auto or changed once for viewer preference. Mode provides six pre-set picture type configurations of cell light, contrast, brightness, sharpness, color and tint(G/R) plus BD Wise configuration for Blu-ray discs playing on Samsung 3D Blu-ray player. These allow picture settings to be selected for one's preference, program source & time of day. Write down factory settings for each picture type before making any changes to them. TV remote is a nice contemporary design that allows quick access to picture Mode using Tools or Menu buttons.

Samsung 3D Blu-ray disc player has inter-connectivity features of BD Wise and Anynet+ of this TV that automatically sets optimum resolution and other linked operations thru HCMI 1.4 cable. It is one-half the size of older Blu-ray players, loads discs in one-third the time and has neat contemporary touch controls with blue see-thru disc window and logo. Has built-in wireless LAN which we haven't set up yet. Provides great picture for Blu-ray and DVD Movies & is frequently bundled with Samsung 3D TVs.

There are two test patterns for settings on shades or colors in Menu- Picture- Advanced Setting- Expert Patterns. But much more comprehensive HD set-up & tests are on Blu-ray disc, DVE HD Basics, available from Amazon.com. It explains how to set-up TV HD picture & Audio for optimum capabilities. HD video calibration patterns are provided for brightness, contrast, color, sharpness, resolution & geometry plus 1080p advanced video test patterns & demonstration videos. For Cal-Day picture mode, the TV was run thru video calibration & basic set-up patterns. This plasma TV passed every test pattern & could be set-up for exact reproduction of the incoming video.

Setting for Cal-Day mode provided by another reviewer of this TV at Amazon.com works good and only slight changes were made for viewer preference. My settings for perfect picture reproduction in semi-dark basement are: Cell Light 10, Contrast 90, Brightness 50, Sharpness 0, Color 50, Tint 50/50. Advanced Settings- Black Tone Dark, Dynamic Contrast Low, Gamma +1, others Off or Auto. Picture Options- Color Tone Normal, Film Mode Auto 1 or Cinema Smooth (only Blu-ray 24 Hz), rest normal, Auto or Off (Motion Judder Canceller Off). Cell Light can be increased to 15 or 20 if room is bright or just want very bright picture. Note that Sharpness adds artificial edge whitness not in original video & should be set to 0 for best picture fidelity. For personal preferences may want to increase Sharpness to 20- 30 or change other settings such as Black Tone, Dynamic Contrast, Gamma, Color Tone and MJC. Any of Picture Mode Setings can be changed for viewer preference.

3D
Only true 3D content available at this time was 3D movies Monsters vs Aliens and Cloudy With Chance Of Meatballs released at end of June. Viewing Monsters vs Aliens was amazing with great picture depth & occasional pop-out-of-screen events. Much, much better than old eye fatiguing red/blue 3D glasses. Shutter battery operated glasses that came with Starter Kit are very light weight and comfortable. They can fit over regular glasses & operate way off-center & up to 20 ft from IR emitter on TV's lower left corner. One neighbor viewing 3D movie on this TV said it was better looking than 3D shown at movie theaters. Samsung 3D Blu-ray disc player interacts with 3D TV so the 3D movie is automatically set for 3D picture.

It is very important to initially set 3D View Point to -1, factory settings of 0 or plus 1 resulted in ghosting & double background images for 3D Monsters vs Aliens movie. Access thru TV Menu- Picture- Enter- 3D- View Point. Once familiar with TV settings one can always go back to View Point & make adjustments to see what happens. For personal preference, Picture Options- Motion Judder Canceller can be set to Standard or Smooth. Picture Modes available for 3D movies are Standard, Movie & BD Wise.

2D to 3D
With only three clicks on remote, any incoming video from cable or Blu-ray disc player can be converted to a 3D picture. Hit 3D button, Enter & then on left double single person icon. Be sure to set focus/depth of the 3D image in Depth to 8 or 9 to give better 3D effect rather than factory setting of 4 or 5. Access thru TV Menu- Picture- Enter- 3D- Depth. 3D effect is not as deep as 3D movies & doesn't have pop-out-of-screen effects. But it gives a more realistic picture to any movie or cable program including some commercials. Like watching out of a window with background off in distance.

HD programs such as entertainment & sports benefit much from conversion to 3D. Blu-ray and even DVD movies take on a nice 3D effect- particularily with foreground/deep background scenes. Avatar 2D Blu-ray movie converted to 3D was pretty awesome, especially the flying scenes. Other movies meant for 3D, such as Journey to Center of Earth, have many scenes of foreground/deep background that have good 3D effects. Animated movies like Up, Cars, etc., really benefit from 3D conversion providing more immersion & enjoyment. Flying movies like 2012, Pearl Harbor, Amelia, etc. achieve great depth in the flying scenes. The series Over America, Over California, etc., and Wing Flight (available from Amazon.com) are really awesome when flying over cities, mountains and alongside the birds.

This TV was worth it just for the amazing 2D to 3D conversion of programs and movies since true 3D movies & cable programs are so few right now. It is entertaining just to review past viewed movies to see how more realistic the picture is.

Audio
As expected, the built-in small two speakers audio is poor, typical of flat screen TVs. It is mandatory that at least a 5.1 receiver/speaker set-up be used to get nearly the theater experience. Doesn't have to be very expensive or new system to achieve the enjoyable surround sound to go with fantastic looking movies. Samsung 3D Blu-ray disc player only has one HDMI 1.4 output, one digital optical output, analog 7.1 output & 2 Ch analog but no HCMI 1.3 output for current receivers. Newer 7.1 audio receivers have HDMI 1.4 pass-thru to TV & best Dolby & DTS capability. Otherwise a 5.1 receiver that supports lower quality Dolby Digital & DTS thru the optical connection to disc player is ok, like our 2001 audio system that can still rattle the walls. We plan to up-date to 7.1 HDMI 1.4 pass-thru system later.

Summary
A TV capable of giving perfect reproduction of original video at any viewing angle and can adjust many things for personal preferences of picture. 3D movies are awesome & gives occasional pop-out-of-screen effects. 2D to 3D conversion of cable programs & movies can give really nice realistic effect when have foreground with deep background- particularily flying & mountain scenes. TV is worth it just for 2D to 3D convesion. 3D glasses are comfortable & fit over regular glasses. Samsung 3D Blu-ray player is outstanding with small compact design, amazing quick disc load times & contemporary design with touch buttons & see-thru window above disc. This plasma cons are the poor audio which is universal with flat screen TVs making at least a separate 5.1 or better audio system mandatory for theater like expeience. (Didn't deduct rating for audio.) Also, this size plasma set uses 440W of power compared to 201W for old 57" projection TV & more than same size LCD flat panel TVs. But this is equivalent of only 2 more light bulbs being on and is small price to pay for exceptional picture with 3D capabilties.

Love it

I've gone through quite the adventure over the last 5 months with purchasing my new TV. I thought it would be helpful to others if I shared. Long story short, I've gone through the UN55B6000, PN58B860, UN55C7000 and PN58C7000 and PN58C8000.

We moved into a new apartment, and needed a new tv to go over our fire place. We were upgrading from a 5 year old Samsung 720p DLP TV.

--UN55B6000--
Loved the form factor of the TV. Got it home and after a few days I was just unhappy with the overall look of the LCD/LED. I really saw a lot of motion blur.

--PN58B860--
I returned the LED TV and went with this TV. I absolutely LOVED the picture quality of the TV. But it buzzed terribly. It sounded like a bug zapper. I could actually hear it over top of the regular tv volume at a 12 ft distance. Best Buy swapped it out for another one. The second PN58B860 buzzed even louder. I gave it about 3 weeks to see if it would get better but it didn't. So I returned it and waited for the 2010 models to come out.

--UN55C7000--
When I heard that the new 2010 models were out, I went down to my friendly Best Buy to hopefully pick up the new plasma. Unfortunately, they only had the new LED in. The sales person told me that all of the issues were fixed on this set that I was unhappy with previously with the UN55B6000. He convinced me to give it a try and that if I were unhappy with it that they would gladly take it back. Sure there was still lighting in the corners and some motion blur, but it was much better. I still wasn't sold on this set, as I LOVED the PQ on the plasma. I decided to go with the plasma and return this set.

--PN58C7000--
Awesome picture quality - however, it's stuck in the soap opera mode and can't be taken out. To me and everybody I know, it looks like a soap opera in fast forward. I can't stand to watch the tv in this mode. It's very odd to me that it's this way, as only the 8000 is supposed to have MJC, so why does the 7000 have it but not have a way to take it off? I found a work around that allows the user to turn the game mode on/off that then caused the MJC to turn off. As a result of this, I returned it to Crutchfield and upgraded to the 8000 series. By the way, can somebody explain to me who would want to buy the 7000 series plasma and be stuck with having MJC on? I just can't figure it out!

--PN58C8000--
I LOVE this TV. Seriously, it's amazing. I like the dark grey bezel better than the black of the 7000 series. Something about it looks more gadgety/elegant. This TV makes a sound when it's on. I can hear it 12+ feet away when sitting right in front of it. It's definitely not a buzz like the PN58B860 that I had before. It sounds more like a fan running. When the volume is at a regular volume I don't notice it at all. When you engage the 3D mode, it gets MUCH louder though. Still hardly notice it. In comparison to the Xbox 360 fan noise, it's much quieter.
Scrumptious picture.

I've had my pn58c8000 for a week, as I write this, and I'm very happy with it. (I didn't buy mine from Amazon, since Amazon won't ship it to Hawaii.) Here is my take on a few issues that concerned me when I was deciding to buy:

(1) Is the c8000 plasma enough better than the c7000 to justify its higher price? I think the jury is still out. The c8000 provides control of the Motion Judder Cancellation feature, while the c7000 doesn't, at least out of the box. But a future firmware release may add that control for the c7000. Most commentators dislike the MJC and just want to turn it off. I like it, personally, but in any case, it's good to have control of it. The Real Black Filter of the c8000 may or may not improve the apparent contrast of the picture, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

(2) Will the TV buzz? Samsung and other brands of plasma sometimes make an irritating buzzing or humming sound. This pn58c8000 is my third Samsung plasma TV, and none of my sets have buzzed. When my pn58c8000 was delivered, before I would sign a receipt, I listened carefully to it with the sound off, and I had my wife listen, also. No buzz -- dead silence. (But that doesn't mean your set won't buzz -- it might.)

(3) Will bright patterns be burnt in to the screen? Quite unlikely, I'd say. It's never happened to me. (I have had retained images on my previous plasma sets, but they go away after a few hours.) What little danger there is can be avoided with just a little care. Every few days, at least for the first few weeks, use the TV's menu selection for Screen Burn Protection, Scrolling. The white edge that pans across the screen will make any retained image obvious, and if you see any, just let the pattern run on until it "shocks" the pixels to remove the image. (I just now did that, for the third time since I got my set, and I saw no retained images at all.)

(4) How does 3d look? I don't yet have a 3d blu-ray player, so I can't tell you about 3d blu-rays. I do subscribe to DirecTV, so I've watched several hours of their n3D channel programming, using the Samsung SSG-2200AR rechargeable glasses. It looks good to me. I do occasionally see some "ghosting" with screen graphics, when a faint image intended for the opposite eye is visible. And I could wish for higher light output for sunny scenes. (The 3d LED sets, I understand, are worse on the ghosting issue, but better at providing high light output.)

(5) Does the 2d to 3d conversion work? I was surprised at how well it works, but I don't actually use it very often, so far.

(6) What about setting up the network? Nothing to it, if you've got an ethernet cable connection to a well functioning network. I simply plugged in the cable and turned on the set. It was all automatic. It took a while for the TV to download the standard applications from the Samsung internet servers. I haven't taken the time yet to do more than play a few UTube videos. Seems to work. On the other hand, playing photos/music/videos from the DLNA servers on my local net does not seem to work at all well. The TV can show menus of the available files, but so far it has refused to actually play anything for me. (I do have two other working DLNA clients, a PS3 and two DirecTV boxes, so I don't think it's a problem with my installation.)

(7) Do the picture controls need to be changed? Yes, I think so. Mine looked good when I first turned the TV on, but not great. But there are plenty of user controls available (this is a strong point of Samsung TVs). Here are the picture settings I'm using now: Mode Movie, Cell Light 15, Contrast 62, Brightness 72, Sharpness 15, Color 41, Tint 50/50, and Advanced Settings: Dynamic Contrast Low, Gamma +1, Flesh Tone -9, and Picture Options: Color Tone Warm2, Motion Judder Canceller Smooth, and 3D: Depth 7. Other controls I have at their default values. It looks great, to me, but it might be a little dark toned for some. (Settings edited 7/25/10 to make colors more subdued.)

(8) What settings to use for 3D? The shutter glasses cut out some light and impart an orangey tint, so to get a natural looking picture, you have to compensate, somehow. I'm not all that happy with the following settings, but it's the best I've been able to do. Mode Standard, Cell Light 18, Contrast 76, Brightness 68, Sharpness 20, Color 43, Tint 54/46, and Advanced Settings: Dynamic Contrast High, Gamma +1, Flesh Tone -9,and Picture Options: Color Tone Cool, Motion Judder Canceller Smooth. (3D settings edited 8/1/10.)

(9) Screen reflections? I have my TV in a very light room, with multiple windows on three walls. There is a window behind my chair, and I do see its reflection in the TV screen, during the day. It's slightly diffused by the TV's screen coating. It doesn't bother me, and my wife hasn't mentioned it, one way or the other.

Beautiful TV

I've had this 58" TV for a little over a month now and I am still amazed at the picture quality. For reference, I upgraded from a 60" 2007 Sony 60A200 rear projection television. When I was shopping for a new TV, I researched the subject for weeks. I was deciding between this Samsung plasma, Panasonic's VT series plasma, and LG's top of the line local-dimming LED TV. I was set on the LG until I read reviews on AVS forum that the screen was highly reflective and thus, not so good in daylight conditions. However, I really liked how slick LED TVs look with their very slim profile. I decided to go with plasma since plasma TVs have very deep black levels.

I chose the Samsung over the Panasonic for a couple of reasons: First was aesthetics. The Samsung TV is just beautiful. The profile is very thin and can be easily mistaken for an LED TV. The bezel is a matte dark charcoal grey. I really love the matte finish as the glossy finish on many TV bexels is distracting, IMO. The other reason I chose the Samsung over the Panasonic is because of the rising black level problems that Panasonic had with their plasmas last year. Some people say that the black level problem has been fixed while others say that it has not. Either way, I did not want to take a chance. I've heard that the Panasonic has an outstanding picture, but my Samsung's picture is just amazing. Saturated, accurate colors with deep black levels. I'm watching a football game right now and I can't believe how black one of the team's jerseys are. Simply beautiful.

Couple of notes on this TV:

- The screen is not reflective whatsoever. I watch TV during the day on the weekends and I have a very large window adjacent to the TV. No reflections whatsoever.

- The TV has a VERY wide viewing angle, unlike LED TVs. No drop off in contrast or picture quality when viewing the TV from an angle. Also, the TV swivels about 20 degrees each way. Very smooth and stable. Great when I'm in a different part of the room, but still want to watch something. I didn't realize how useful this feature would be.

- You can turn Motion Dejudder off. Some TVs, especially LED TVs, have a "video" or "soap opera" look to them. It's as if you're watching a home video production. Some people like this but others do not. With this TV, you can choose this setting or turn it off. I believe this is one of the big differences between Samsung's 8000 vs. the 7000 series plasmas.

- Some Samsung TVs last year exhibited a buzzing sound when on. Mine has absolutely no buzzing whatsoever.

- Bult-in Netflix and Vudu services are outstanding. Check out Vudu if you're looking for high quality HD movies on demand. Simply beautiful.

- I did not break-in my plasma like many people on [...] recommend. No matter. I've watched lots of ESPN with static images and movies with black bars above and below and I have not seen any image retention or burn-in.

I'm so impressed with this TV that I'm going to get another one later this year for my family room. This is an amazing TV if it is in your price range and I highly recommend it.

I looked at many reviews and settled on the PN58C8000. I was replacing a 5 year old Sony HD rear projection. I wanted something thinner, so when you walk into the room you don't see a side of a TV. I leaned plasma given the response time, viewing angle, and value/$ relative to the LCD/LEDs. I did not want to have any motion blur given I am a gamer as well. So, this TV is great. Solid picture and the settings another reviewer recommended seemed to work well.

No buzzing as some reviews noted. I was amazed at how easily it connected (wired) to my network for the apps and the model number was already available as an add-on to my Harmony 900 remote. The TV is a bit shiny, but most of them are. The TV is in a media room, so it is dark most of the time. The color of the TV is graphite in color, which is a step up from the 7000 which apparently is just black.

I figured if I am upgrading I might as well get one which is 3D ready. However, I did not purchase the Blue Ray or Glasses yet. Reasons why: (1) there is no content available (even AVATAR isn't out in 3D). (2) I have a PS3 and later this year it will be able to process 3D Blue Rays, (3) XpanD X103 3D Glasses will be available in July (I emailed the manufacturer)and they can be used on any 3D TV and at the theater...for about $129/each. They are supposed to have a better refresh rate to lessen any side-effects from watching 3D. So, wait a month and then be able to try the 2D to 3D conversion, then by Xmas be able to play true 3D DVDs.
Great WOW factor

I was a big fan of LCD tv's for years and had many of them.

I never considered plasma as they all looked dim in the store.

I also could not understand why they were much cheaper than a equivalent LCD, assuming they were inferior.

Finally I decided to take a gamble and purchase this set, one of the best decisions I have made tv wise.

Picture is great, every bit as bright as a LCD.

Colors are much deeper than a LCD, so much that you need to resist the temptation to keep the screen so bright it washes out the colors.

And the blacks, well you have never seen blacks until you purchase this set

Thats the thing with LCD's, everyone keeps them so bright, the colors wash out and you have a inferior picture.

You must calibrate this set. There are many settings and spending a little time with it will result in a picture you would not think possible out of a television.

These new plasmas are light and thin, much lighter than previous plasmas.

Samsung claims the are no more burn in issues, and the tv needs no break in.

This is still a hotly debated subject, so I would not recommend any still picture for hours on end just to be on the safe side.

I have ZERO buzz out of this set, although some have complained that the set they purchased has a buzzing noise.

No common lcd issues such as flashlighting, halos, color bleed etc.

Reflections can be a problem as with most LCD tv's and plasma's, I have always kept the blinds drawn for daytime viewing although I am the only one in the household that notices it.

The internet acces is a plus, I bought samsung's wireless dongle and it connected immediately to my wireless network.

Netflix on this tv is awesome, which puzzled my as the quality on a computer screen is less than average at best.

This tv is just full of options, more of a mini computer.
For the money, this top tier Samsung offers the best picture and features that can be found at a price at least a thousand less than samsung's comparable LCD.

The remote is much improved over previous samsung remotes, and has a good layout.

So don't let the dim unadjusted picture in a store sway you, they are kept like that to influence you to the LCD which carries a higher profit margin.

I guess you could call this set one of the best kept secrets on the plasma market and carries my highest recommendation.

The only thing that was laughable was the delivery.

The set was supposed to be brought inside and tested to see if it was working.

The trucking company sent out one little gentleman, that looked to be in his late sixties, I had to get my teens to get the set in the house, this poor guy had no chance to get it in.

I shudder to think what would of happened if there was no one available to help, or if the tv had to go to a second floor.

I was expecting two people, which I felt was needed, but the shipping was free, although substandard for those that don't have the ability to help.

Unpacking the tv takes less than a minute, remove the strapping, remove the 4 plastic clips at the bottom, and the box slides off the top, with the tv ready for mounting, which is a TWO person operation.

If you wall mount, remove the base screws BEFORE you remove the tv from the bottom of the box, the base will remain in the box when lifting the tv with no effort required.

Make sure you install the ferrous cores on the power cord on installation.
The power cable must be looped though these cores, or the cores will slide up and down the cord.

These cores need to be kept withing one inch of the tv and the plug.

A higher end power strip is recommended for power surges, as even the smallest wear down the tv's electrical comonents over time and can lead to premature failure.
Hope this helps.

caveat - just moved in and have only hooked it all up and watched for about a couple hours...

I literally spent about 4 months going through all the different reviews on different sites. I knew that I wanted a 55" or plus tv. I wanted the best HD quality I could find.

I initially was going to go with the highest rated 2009 samsung but had heard a great deal about a buzzing issue (PN55860?). It scared me off. I then switched and decided on Panasonic. I then found out that they have issues with not maintaining the blacks and that "graying" occurred after so many hours. I checked that one of the list. Next up was the LG and I nearly pulled the trigger on the LG LE8500 despite how pricey it was. I still have no criticism of that tv, but I found this one and was able to get what I hoped would be as much or more t.v. for the price.

I did not care about having 3d, but thought it would be pretty cool to have it anyway. I bought the bundle through Amazon which included the 3d blue ray player and 3d kit. I have not yet checked out the 3d so I am not able to comment as to the 3d technology.

I have seen the picture and it is lights out incredible. I have to say that the room it is in has a great deal of outside light and it doesnt adversely effect my viewing. It looks great on our wall as well. I can hear no buzzing that is emitting from the tv at all. I may not be as acutely aware of those hard to hear sounds, but I hear nothing.

I probably would be frustrated that the tv is not wireless ready out of the box (you have to buy a usb connector), but that is a non-issue since the blue ray player is wirelessly connected to the internet. This is particularly awesome given the great things that come with (especially pandora...great for when you are working around the house and just want a playlist to go).

I was also happy with the freight company that Amazon hired to have deliver the tv. They brought it in, assembled what was needed and then ran a full check on the tv to ensure that it was working and fine.

The tv is thin. I dont know how to convey how truly thin it is. I also like that Samsung was smart enough to make the HDMI outlets on the side and that area recessed so that I could flush mount it to the wall without the tv sticking out (which I did and purchased a peerless flush mount through Amazon as well). I couldnt be happier with the way this worked out.

This entire unit is driven by a newly purchased yamaha reciever with surround sound that has this setup sounding absolutely epic at this point.

I have to say, although I just moved in and have barely had a chance to really sit down and relax to enjoy a full length player or even the 3d, I am extremely satisfied with this product.

I hope this helps others like myself that have been concerned with spending this much money on a product you fully hope you will be satisfied with. Good luck and hope your luck is as good as mine.

UDPATE: Have continued to have really good luck with this model. I adjusted the settings and watch band of brothers in HD the other day and it was unreal. It wasnt even bluray. The one thing I would caution most people on is the 3d. While it is really neat, do not think that this going to be like going to the IMAX and watching AVATAR. It adds a great deal of depth and does give a 3D image, but it isnt as though things are popping out of the set like crazy. If anything, it adds more depth "into" the set. Still very cool and lets hope that the 3d market continues to flourish. I would have bought this with or without the 3d and rarely use it. Very solid buy.
Return to Plasma

Well, I have returned to the world of plasma. I returned the Sony KDL60EX700 i had gotten. A beautiful TV but for some reason the
sunlit room I have it in and the fact that you pretty much have to be in a small arc in front of the TV for the picture not
to bleach out became like an O C D thing that I couldn't get over. The bad news is after 2 weeks I had gotten used to
the sharp, well defined picture with muted colors and now have to get acclimated to the deeper colors and blacks of
the plasma. All that being said, The Samsung is a beautiful TV with plenty of preference adjustments. Thanks to another
reviewer for giving me a starting point. I got lucky in the exchange process and got the free starter kit Samsung was offering
so I got the Bluray 3D player, 2 pair of glasses and the Monsters vs. Aliens disk. I figured I might as well get a set with the
3 D capability. It is just a novelty now but more media seems to be on the way and it is a fun experience.
I have only had it a day but what can I say. It's a Plasma and a good one.
For 3D Plasma is better than LCD

It took me a couple of months to decide on a 3D tv to purchase. It wasn't that I wanted a 3D tv, I just needed a new tv and figured I had better get one that is 3D capable.

Now, if you are like me and want to get a 3D tv, but aren't sure what to get, let me help you out. I chose this TV over other LCD tv's for two reasons. 1) I went to several retail stores and watch the Samsung and Sony LED/LCD tv's and was even able to compare this tv side by side with a the Samsung UN55C8000 55-Inch 1080p 240 Hz 3D LED HDTV. My conclusion was simple, the plasma has better viewing angles and contrast than the LCDs. Trust me, viewing angle makes a huge difference with the 3D.

Now, as for 3D content, I got Monster vs. Aliens and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs... both look fantastic. But were I was blown away was when I downloaded WipWout HD on Playstation 3. The 3D graphics are stunning. I mean really stunning... it is like nothing you have ever seen before.

The best way to describe the 3D effect on this tv (and all active shutter TV's I have seen) it to compare it to looking into a box. Most of the 3D effect goes deeper inside the TV. It is kindof like looking out a window and seeing beautiful landscapes stretched out before you or seeing deep space. Some of the effect pop out of the screen (in the beginning of M vs. A there is a guy playing paddle ball and everyone jumps when he hits the ball out of the screen).

As for non-3D content, this is the best TV I have ever owned for watching movies and sports. The contrast is amazing. For video games, I still like my Sharp LCD (mostly because of the brightness). Of course as more 3D games come out, I will probably grow to love this TV even more.

All in all, great buy!!! Don't waste your money on the LED/LCD's because this tv is way better and less expensive.

This was the most expensive item I purchased on Amazon and I was afraid of shipping damage. Well, no worries there as the shippers are just as great as Amazon! Register the product on Samsung's site and get 3 more months of warranty (as with many of their products).
This TV replaces a 5-year old 42" 60hz Sony LCD rear projection that was still running great. I just wanted something more up to date and 3D capable. Well...to go from my older 60hz TV to 600hz in this plasma made my eyes pop out of my head when I first turned on a BluRay movie! The clarity is unbelievable as well as the depth given to the video. Normal cable (from comcast) is also excellent on the HD channels and very good on the normal SD channels. The speakers are pretty good considering they are placed on the back of the TV (I guess it bounces the sound off the wall for increased effect). I do have a Samsung surround sound system for the movies and is recognized by the TV for easy control.
One of my hesitations from purchasing this unit (compared to the more expensive LED 8000 series) was that some people have reported in the reviews a buzzing or humming sound from the set. I can tell you I hear none (I even temporarily put the mute on to see if there was a noticeable sound). The user book describes this sound as normal and does state that if your brightness is set too high the humming sound will get louder. My brightness is set at 45 and I hear none what so ever.
With the bundled 3D player and glasses this makes for one excellent entertainment system (even more so with a surround sound system).
Another great feature are the updates. Keep the TV connected to the internet and it will always be up to date with the latest firmware/software so that it functions at its best.
I am very pleased with this TV.
The TV to buy in 2010

I've been looking to purchase a new TV for months and went back and fourth between the Samsung 8,000 series LED and Plasma. After reading reviews and comparing at my local store the Plasma displays a more accurate picture and is better at 3D, so I purchased the Plasma. I couldn't be happier! The picture quality is outstanding right out of the box. After calibrating it, its the best picure I have ever seen! Even my wife noticed a big difference from our old Samsung DLP. I also liked that the Plasma is much cheaper then the LED. Connecting it to the internet is easy and its great how whatever you are watching stays in the background while you check weather, news, sports, etc. Love it. You won't be sorry with this purchase!

I've seen people complain about CEVA shipping. I had no problems with them at all. I ordered the TV on a Tuesday and the TV was delievered the following Tuesday! CEVA helped me set it up and made sure everything worked properly. The whole process was great.
Just incredible picture

I got this TV just over a month ago and the first weekened I had it I found it hard to leave the house. Forget about the 3D capabilities for now (though I have to say they are MUCH better than the junk you see in theaters). There is ONE movie available at this time and it's a kids flick so really, who cares.

The picture quality on this TV has to be experienced. At 7,000,000:1 Contrast Ratio even the regular crapy HD broadcast from your cable provider will blow your mind. It is so realistic that your brain actually protests and tells you that there is something wrong. At times you feel like you can reach into the screen and touch things... Playing a Blu-ray DVD is where this TV really shines at the moment. I was watching the latest Star Trek and the scenes on the bridge were just stunning. You can actually see the flaws in the actors makeup!!! Movie directors better watch out with this new generation of equipment. The screwups in their work come glaring at you from that ultra clear picture on screens like this.

One feature of note. The TV has a 3D mode built in where it actually takes an HD 2D picture and applies some tech magic to do a faux 3D. I though this would be a cheesy ad-on that I would never use... Wrong... If you have a good HD broadcast like some of the newer nature shows that have been recorded in the last few years when you turn on this 3D mode and put on your glasses, while you do not get a true 3D image out of it, it does add depth to the picture you are watching making it an experience on it's own.

In summary, welll worth the money spent, specialy if you get the bundle with the new 3D player and the starter package with the glasses. Actually ver price competitive with other non 3D setups of this quality so why not?

Ok. I've owned this tv for over a month. First off this tv is beautiful both on and off. I have to take my hat off to Samsung's picture quality. Blu rays are stunning in 2D and 3D is almost perfect (a little ghosting issue but with the latest firmware it's almost gone). Best tv i've owned so far. Looked at the un55c8000 but had too much blur and ghosting. Returned a Panasonic vt25 because of lack of features plus looks ugly in camparison to the sammy. I've owned the 71 series LCD before this and never thought I'd own a plasma. I loved the brightness and pop of LCD's. Surprised to to see that after calibration this set is just as capable and for 3D it's plasma or nothing. Speaking of 3D, the 2D to 3D feature is no gimmick. Have you ever Seen Avitar converted to 3D? Better than in the theater. Have You ever played Zen pinball in 3D. Wow. If you haven't then it sucks to be you. Bottom line great tv. I spent a long time looking for a new TV. I knew I wanted at least a 58" and a plasma and this TV is perfect. I usually don't write reviews for things, but this TV was worth a review. I debated getting the 6000 Samsung series without the 3D capability - boy I am glad I didn't. The 3D is unbelievable! I have direct TV and they currently have three 3D channels - more content will come. The 2D picture is amazing on this TV as well. I have had the TV for about a month and no buzzing at all. I think this problem was fixed with all the later Samsung models. Can't really comment on the sound from the TV - I have a surround sound system. The 2D to 3D conversion is OK - more depth perception than anything. Overall if your looking for an amazing TV this is the one for you.
LCD/LED Picture Quality Can't Compete

Review Date: September 5, 2010
Reviewer: Robert L. Brathwaite Jr,
My old Sony Trinitron FINALLY died and I was SOOOOOOO happy to replace it. My wife thought I was just trying to find an excuse to buy a new Flatscreen TV. LOL I was happy to upgrade and couldn't wait to buy a new HDTV. So I set my sights on a flat screen TV with excellent picture quality, feature rich and internet capable. I'm a big movie watcher so picture quality was of the utmost importance. LCDs are the hot TVs now with a lot of additional features and I really wanted to get into streaming internet video to my TV. So that's where I focused my search and that's where the future seemed to be going.

In my research, I found that LEDs were closing the gap for LCDs and Plasmas. So when I was making my selection I had the following TVs on my list to choose from; Samsung UN55C690 LED, LG INFINIA 55LE8500 LED, LG INFINIA 55LE5500 LED, and as a late add the Samsung PN58C8000 Plasma. I have experience with Plasmas as I already had a Panasonic 50" and I really enjoyed the picture quality. So I had this constant internal dilemma that I LCDs were just not going to match up with the picture quality. I searched high and low for an LCD/LED HDTV and just could not find any within an affordable price range with comparable picture quality. For me that was the tie breaker, and trumped any feature an LCD could offer. Because ultimately that is what you do is watch TV so it made sense for that to be the highest priority when searching for a new HDTV.

So I took my list and started to go to stores to scout the TVs and started at Best Buy. The salesman there pointed out something when I asked "why should I get an LCD over a Plasma?." He said "look at the TVs we feature in our showroom, 95% are Plasmas because they still have superior picture quality over LCDs." So it re-enforced what I believed all along that Plasmas were the way to go. So I turned my focused to Plasmas and found the Samsung PN58C8000. This attractive thin flat-screen really caught my eye. The picture quality is stunning! I love the Dynamic Picture and Movie modes. The blacks are fantastic and it has a nice bright picture in a lot of sunlight. My wife laughs at me when I sit back in appreciation of the quality and my satisfaction in my selection. I honestly really didn't want 3D but I looked at it as an additional feature rather than an added incentive to buy it. Maybe I'll use it in the future but the side effects of watching for long periods in 3D freaks me out. The Samsung PN58C8000 has a lot of menu settings to customize the picture or the TV overall which I like. The Tools menu setting allows for quick changes to the picture and sound whether its a lot of sunlight or to enjoy the darker settings for watching movies. Out of the box, the settings are a mess so take your time getting them just right. Another great feature is the Internet TV and the Samsung Apps. With this feature, you can get quick weather/news/sports updates as well as save some money by not paying for premium cable movie channels and instead stream Netflix movies. With a decent wireless router, you can stream pretty seamlessly with little delay while watching a picture. I was impressed! However, I was disappointed that I couldn't use any wireless adapter since the Samsung adapter is expensive. I actually tried a Cisco wireless adapter but it didn't work. But once I did get the Samsung wireless adapter, it worked like a charm. It was very easy to install. I had to put on the extension it came with as it was too close to the TV and interfered with the signal. For my other HDTV that is not internet ready, I hooked up my Wii and now I'm good to go with Netflix on that one as well.

Now I may be impressed with the TV overall but it does have some drawbacks. For instance, the factory settings gave the picture a Soap opera look which was really annoying and worried me a bit at first. It really changes the feel of a show/movie and not for the better. Once turned the Motion Judder Function off, it eliminated the soap opera feel. It really should be called soap opera function because it didn't improve the motion picture but moved the picture slowly like a cameraman was filming it in real-time. One key that that truly concerns me is that t

Excellent Picture Quality, Buy.

Review Date: April 10, 2010
Reviewer: Babak, San Diego, CA
I spent close to an hour in the store comparing LCD TVs. This LG stood out with its sharp and bright colors. I used the store's Internet connection to check out the reviews but since it is a new model there wasn't many. The older model however was popular among gamers.

The speakers on this TV are hidden on the back and this gives it a neat look. The speakers also sound great. There are different sound options in the menu plus advanced picture controls. In "Intelligent Sensor" mode the TV adjust the brightness and color contrast according to the room lighting conditions. The picture quality is easy to setup using the picture wizard option.

This TV has three HDMI connections in the back to use with your laptop or desktop plus an RGB (VGA Cable). There is also a USB 2.0 port in the back. I connected a USB thumb drive and was able to listen to music and display my digital pictures on the screen.

Over all I am very pleased with quality of this LG model and recommend it to anyone who wants to buy a LCD TV for under $1k, and I mean not for picture quality but the size of the screen since this had as good, if not better, picture quality as other more expensive models in the store.
Amazing!

Review Date: June 27, 2010
Reviewer: Richard L. Morrow,
Might not appeal to the people who can afford a $2500 TV..aka the videophile, but I'm in love with this. For 95% of people this should be more than enough. After months of shopping around and doing my homework, I went against the grain and decided to try the LG. Purchased this set through Walmart site to store. It was $70 more than the LD450 model on the shelf. But in my eyes well worth paying a little extra and waiting another week for it. The extra hdmi port alone justifies the $$$$.

Picture Crisp! Bright. Color is deep! Pops off the screen when in high def. Nothing in 480 (standard) looks good on this though . Keep that in mind. Initially struggled with adjustments. In the end a couple of tweaks to cinema mode were all it took. Looks as good (maybe better) than the comparible Sony's and Samsungs.

A word of advice... I saw one of the 450 models on a store shelf...which basically has the same picture with a few less features. It looked horrible next to a Sony. Huh? The sales guy tried to tell me that the LG wasn't getting as good of a signal. Ummm...why does the 47" inch version way down on the other end also look bad next to the Sony? Or even the Sanyo? Why do I see the same thing when I visit the store down the road in fact? The answer? LG's 'store demo' presets are horrible. I'm not sure why they did this. But they badly misjudged something. Once you get the picture correctly adjusted, you'll see what I'm talking about. It's an "oooh and ahhhh" kind of thing when you see what it is supposed to look like.

THOUGHTS:

Intellegent Sensor is useless. Makes the picture WAY too dim. It might have been good if they weren't so conservative with the energy savings. I could achieve 100% power savings by unplugging it, but what would be the point? Options to adjust Itelligent Sensor are greyed out too. The IS logo that pops up on the screen is also annoying. Blech! . Strongly recommend disabling this feature.

Trumotion=much ado about nothing. Doesn't add anything great to the experience and in many cases makes things worse. Thankfully it's easy to disable. Interloping of frames just creates an artificial feeling to everything. Even on low it's bad. If motion blur/judder is an issue to you, then you to look into Plasma. I really don't notice it though. NBA finals and World Cup matches looked amazing WITHOUT this feature enabled!!!!!

60hz vs 120hz: The difference is slightly noticable. Will 60hz ruin your viewing experience? No. But for the slight price difference it's worth it. You'll notice the difference with Blue Ray movies for sure.

Glare almost non existant. Good job!!!

Off angle viewing isn't flawless, but I don't notice issues unless I'm watching tv from the other room.

Reported 'lip-sync' issues: I saw it do this once and the issue never resurfaced. So I'm writing this off.

Remote control simple to use. Well done. Although I can make all adjustments I need to with my Directv remote, so it will go into mothballs.

Noticed a bit of uneven backlighting when I'm flipping channels, on a pure white screen. But don't let that scare you. You shouldn't notice it 99% percent of the time. If it does become an issue to you, then adjust the intensity of the backlight accordlingly.

Sound could have been better. Meh! Having speakers in the back was a bad idea. Asthetics aside..they shouldn't have done this. But I'll be getting a home theatre system soon anyway. So it's a minor issue to me.

The stand: I had heard rumbling about the stand not being very 'secure' on the LD450 models. Definitely not an issue with the 520 series. Seems perfectly stable to me. I've bumped it a couple of times and it barely moved.

Lack of an ethernet port: Would have been nice had LG included this feature just for pulling down firmware updates. But I can live without it

BOTTOM LINE:

This tv is great! You can't go wrong....as people have said...for the money. If you are looking for something better....wait a year or two for the next generation of led-backlit sets to hit the mainstream market at a reasonable price. But I can honestly tell you that this unit provides the best balance of all worlds. It's candy for the retinas!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.

Well done LG

-Rick

Another reviewer stated that if I researched I would find that this is a 60hz TV and not 120hz. Ok I did the research and it's 120hz as advertised.
Nice TV

Review Date: June 15, 2010
Reviewer: Eric, Austin
I bought this TV from the big box retailer that constantly rolls back prices. The TV was actually cheaper than online. Overall I like the TV very much and I think the value proposition is excellent. My local Bestbuy had this TV on display.

I have three recommendations for people who are not technically inclined - like myself - and get this TV to utilize the TV's full potential:

1. Make sure you use an HDMI cable to connect this TV to your cable box. You need to make sure that your HDMI cable is at least version 1.3.
2. Get HD cable or satellite. Having HD channels makes a huge difference.
3. Make sure your cable box is set at 1080p output signal. Our cable box was set at a much lower picture quality and it took me a while to figure this out. Some cable boxes might adjust the output signal automatically, but not all do that.

If you follow these three simple steps you should be able to enjoy the full potential of the TV. Also, think about getting netflix and one of the blue ray players that allows you to stream netflix. The quality of some of the movies is just awesome.

My last recommendation is to get an additional warranty. LCD TVs seem to be more prone to failing than CRT TVs. There are huge differences in the cost of these additional warranties. So account for these differences in your comparisons when you shop around.
Awesome TV

Overall this is a great tv. I own a LG blu-ray player as well and when mated with this tv it looks amazing. The 120hz Trumotion is really fun to watch sports on and can't wait till football season. Thanks LG for another great product!!
Very nice 120hz LCD TV

Our 3 year old 34" Sony Trinitron CRT 1080 HD TV went on the frizzle, replaced it with this TV, extremely happy. Watched World Cup matches, no motion blur. Great sound !

Another great monitor from LG! Awesome picture! Acceptable sound, but who uses TV sound anymore? Optical out to my surround system and "Wow"! Sleek package. A multitude of connectivity options. Easy setup. Broke her in during a 2 hour session of Borderlands. As with my 32" LG 32LH40 monitor, awesome graphics! No blurring even during the most demanding video game action sequences! I'm sold on LG products! The $577 price directly from Amazon and the 4-day free shipping are additional selling points!

Oh yea, works great as a TV also!
No wonder LG is top of the line

I have had this LCD for about 2 days now and I can say that it is the best LCD that I have ever owned. The colors are unbelievable, the picture is perfect. 1080p looks amazing. Overall if you are in the market looking for a great LCD TV to buy, this one is your best bet, especially for the price. Perfect for gaming.
Great Picture Quality, Smooth 120Hz technology, great gaming mode

I just received this TV an I'm very excited about it. I will add more to my review after I play a few Xbox 360 and PS3 games and watch more movies are .
Just a few things I notice.
-GAMERS, enable the game mode, it turns off all video filters and enhancement (intended for movies not games) that may delay your controller response, making the time between the moment you press a button to the time your character reacts, shorter. (you will notice his playing FIFA or guitar hero where a tiny delay is the difference between scoring or not) also on your xbox 360, go to settings video output, select 1080p. (if the video output, and screen native resolution match, it will save a few milliseconds of response time since the upscaling is eliminated)
-TruMotion 120Hz makes movies look really smooth, It makes movies look like a soap opera, no everybody like the effect,. but you can disable it.
-Use the Picture Wizard II feature, it will help you to improve the color accuracy, it a useful tool included with the TV, It really works!.
Great value!

We bought this tv from another online retailer and have absolutely loved it. We have it in our bedroom and for the price, you cannot go wrong. The picture is perfect, the sound is wonderful - you can tweak the sound settings and get decent bass etc, the volume goes up really high too. There are many settings...whatever you need to tweak, the setting is there, even online settings to connect to wireless network to see multimedia from other devices on the network. We have not had a single complaint about this tv except for the fact that since it is glossy, it does get fingerprints quickly and shows the dust! I think that is expected with any glossy finish though. Initial setup was easy and fast. I recommend this tv for anyone looking to stay within a decent budget but still get alot of bang for your buck!
Very Good LG LCD

I've owned plasma, lcd and projector HDTV's and recently purchased this LG 42" set. I'm very impressed with the overall picture quality.

Great image quality and very accurate colors after tweaking the attributes a bit.

I haven't tested it with a CRT monitor, but gaming lag seems very low.

Amazing clarity and sharpness, works very well as a PC Monitor using HDMI.

I believe the setting "Just Scan" is 1:1 pixel mapping.

120hz for Sports! It's great! I don't like it at all for any other viewing other than sports. The Trumotion 120hz feature can be disabled or enabled at any time. It creates a rather unnatural looking "Live Shoot" "Home Video" kind of effect--but it works well with live action sporting events such as football. In 60hz mode this LCD performs well with sports but you'll notice slightly blurry, slightly pixellated "artifacts" when a football player is running (certain camera angles are worse/better) pixellated turf at times, etc. It's not hugely noticeable but it's there when you really focus on it in fast motion sports. The Trumotion feature almost eliminates these artifact/blur issues, I leave it on during NFL games--yes the commercials look a bit weird with it, but for the live action game I love it.

Black level could be better, some backlight flashlighting on an all-black background--one of the tradeoffs with many LCD's.

Cooler than a plasma which heats up a smaller room, great (almost too much so) clarity and definition compared even to most plasmas (plasmas usually have a slightly softer definition that many believe looks more natural)

Lower resolution standard TV and even lower res pictures on a PC suffer, this baby loves 720p/1080p/1080i and general high res content.

Excellent "tweakability" the controls are great for getting the picture you want. Many different modes, cinema with warmer hues, game mode with all specialty controls turned off, and one thing I love is this TV remembers your picture settings per input. A lot of tv's in this range don't do this. Tweak the Cinema picture setting on your Blu Ray HDMI 1? It remembers those settings for that HDMI 1 input and all other inputs when you switch inputs.

Picture looks great crisp contrast, vivid bright colors, excellent sound would recommend this TV to anyone. My only complaint is the lack of analog audio output connection.
